The other reason that is so dangerous is that when liberals try to outflank the fascist party, the fascists move even further right to maintain their brand as the most extreme. Which often means they lose basically no voters, and liberals still lose despite throwing their voters to the fishes.
And once you are that far gone, there is no longer any reason for anyone in your base who supports LGBTQ people to conceivably support you--there's no longer even a case for "harm reduction." Dems would have to compete with the GOP for scraps in a race to the fascist bottom, like Starmer.
That is to say, the only way Democrats could conceivably win any voters by being anti-trans is by basically becoming a Republican on all trans and gay rights issues. We are seeing Keir Starmer realize this in the UK, even as his domestic support continues to tank, he sprints to the far right.
The fact that Democrats actually understand this issue less than Republicans is also why Dems anti-trans strategy is doomed to fail. The (very small number of) people going out to vote primarily to hurt trans people *also* really hate LGB people, and will never vote for someone like Newsom.
Republicans know this, which is why they are consistent in their hatred. The only way anti-trans hatred actually appeals to voters is when it's complete and sincerely hate for all gender nonconformity--eg, far right voters Dems will never win.
When Newsom goes and rants about trans kids every week on his podcast and then supports gay marriage, this is not just a fascist position, it's an incomprehensible one. Because when Newsom attacks the ability of trans kids to defy gender norms, he also attacks all LGBTQ people.
The problem with trying to separate out trans people isn't that trans discrimination leads to homophobia. The problem is that anti trans discrimination IS the same concept as homophobia. All anti-trans discrimination directly hurts LGBTQ people--see the recent drop in support for gay marriage!
The basis of homophobia isn't that cishet people think being attracted to men or to women is gross. It's the gender nonconformity--liking women as a woman and vice versa--that they see as unacceptable. Homophobia is best understood as a subset of gender oppression against gender nonconformity.
The core of what anti-trans liberals and fascists alike don't understand about why LGB can't be separated from TQ is that the basis of LGBTQ oppression is gender nonconformity, not sexuality. Homophobia is discrimination against people who love others in a way that violates gender norms.

this is actually a pretty normal and healthy user graph curve. I've worked on monitoring users for large companies before and I know what a failed project looks like--Bluesky isn't one. Could it use more user growth? Sure. But it's not dying. Stability often looks like a slight decline over time.

I really don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the UK has effectively criminalized the ability for trans women to have sex. There is no defense to "she lied to me" and no one will believe you if you deny their account. It doesn't matter if you disclosed. The system wants us dead.
So basically in the UK, any time someone regrets having sex with a trans woman, they can go cry to the police that she "lied" about being a woman and the police and jury will believe them every time. Then the woman will be sentenced to be raped by men in men's prison.
