That’s why we created this worksheet, and why I’m organizing workshops this week, including one on facilitating people’s assemblies.
Moving our people from a place of fear, anxiety and panic to organized collective action is another kind of success. That’s why I’m so focused on political ed right now. People need tools. They need strategies for mobilization and help asking the right questions.
The kind of organized resistance that tells a story about Chicago rejecting this authoritarian maneuver (which is not a question about crime rates at all, but a question about whether authoritarian consolidation should be resisted, period) will take organization.
Someone asked me what victory against the forces seeking to occupy Chicago looks like. Obviously, those forces being repelled is the goal, but there are layers to what success looks like in these deteriorating conditions. The first is to successfully resist the normalization of military occupation.

I kept getting caught up in plots during the last drafts of the book, and would inevitably crash out at around the midway point because there was so much happening on the page but very little happening emotionally. What I wanted from the story was lost in the shuffle of plot threads
I desperately need medicine and fresh food to support my health and my strength. My younger siblings and I are already suffering from malnutrition, and each day without proper food makes it even harder to fight off sickness. Hunger, weakness, and illness are all becoming part of our daily reality.💔
Loving my characters does not mean pulling punches but rather spending the time necessary to tease out all of the intricacies of their interior worlds. Good, bad, and ugly. Because if I didn't love them, I wouldn't care to. They could just be attractive cardboard cut-outs for all the good it'd do
Remembering that the book only works if I love the characters -- or, more specifically, allow myself to love them If not, it's just a story about some people with nice wardrobes and emotional problems who get into weird and interesting trouble Which is fine, but not very exciting to me
Feeling very "I love these characters and I hope that translates to a tangible experience when engaging with the story" about this book for the first time in a long time, which I think is good news overall
