His Blue Ant trilogy is amazing, and yes it’s hard to compare with everything else he’s done. Saying it’s my favorite has more to do with genre/setting than quality of his craft.
The interpersonal relationships between the elder sleuths and their younger family members was played for cheap emotional payoffs, unlike the source material that treats both the adult children and their aging parents as fully realized characters with agency.
…as if this was originally optioned as a 6-10 episode series and Powers That Be decided to edit it down to a 120 minute feature. The fact that there's a 10-minute "short story" that was clearly ripped out of the narrative backs up this hypothesis.
The casting was spot on, it started out fairly delightful, but it rushes to wrap up the mystery too quickly...

I loved the audiobook for the Thursday Murder Club, and am enjoying the second in its series even more… the #backyardgrindhouse is sad to say our screening of the 2025 film was dissatisfying. A great start that falls apart in the third act.
The cold cut combo with double meat and the dense veggies gives it heft, and spicy toppings and sauces could be an irritant if the package breaks open.

Like the original Godzilla, the Godzilla 1985 movie was modified to include Raymond Burr and was less of a movie for Hollywood’s meddling. Unlike the original, the Raymond Burr version is pretty much unavailable these days (even the Japanese original is tough to find on disc for that matter)

Yeah, the year has been rough so far, with changes I cannot control signaling a new phase of life (personal, not geopolitical). I try to cherish the outlets for solace I’m privileged to have.
I honestly think the real story here is that May and June’s numbers were absurdly inflated due to pressure in the administration (the “anticipated government hiring” contribution was huge) and the correction had to be made as those jobs were always falsely promised numbers.

A coworker was on a similar show about buying an “island house” — had to pretend to be interested in two other properties and chose the house they were already living in as the winner. Bonus: the “island” was Mount Desert Island in Maine, which is connected to the mainland with a causeway.
So gratified to see Dan Curtis get his due like this. He defined 70s tv horror.
I’m honestly fine with making an experience at the Dome using the original movie as source material for an immersive visual spectacle. But own it— don’t fantasize support from the original artists to justify it. Wholly unnecessary and insulting.
