It seems obvious to believe that welfare should be targeted to the poor, but the reality of targeting is paid targeters and how that means corruption and bribery. Universal basic income gets around this problem by reaching everyone directly. Then taxes can be used to subtract from high income folks.

We need to set a higher standard for what constitutes a study. Any discussion of a study with “implications” should include a detailed account of how the study was conducted. Who participated and how much were they paid deliver the right answers to survey questions?

Look at this graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. This is why we must build back union power.
