The only men I have noticed making this sort of excuse have also been rich and in some sense powerful. It’s still power that tends to corrupt.

More seriously, the prize is in danger of being degraded to the point of meaninglessness or ridicule. Like the titles and sinecures handed out to royal favourites in times past or knighthoods to Tory donors.

Jesus explicitly blew up narrow interpretations of this commandment by telling a story about someone who could not have been more of an outsider to his audience.

The BBC are constantly bending over backwards to please Reform. I fear they're becoming a mouthpiece for Nigel Farage, a guy who wants to destroy them.

Exactly so - I would add lack of imagination to lack of vision and ambition. There’s something very honourable about Starmer but also an obstinate refusal to move away from the long failures of Toryism. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

They have also just had their first two council by-election defences and lost both. It’s as if, once they get in, neither they nor the voters can remember or understand why.

I’m sick of right wing politicians (a classification in which I now include Labour) telling us that the UK has a “proud tradition” of welcoming refugees and immigrants while they simultaneously show coldness even to those they allow to enter.

"The right of working class people to marry a non-citizen spouse" is a victim of politicians' obsession with the net migration number. Like Joel, it has occurred to me recently that my marriage might not have been possible in post-Brexit Britain
