Can someone who knows more about the current health ins environment explain the possibility of starting up a nonprofit health insurance/shared risk pool again? Would it be more affordable? Could it work? Or is the effort to buy up hospitals and medical practices made this possibility impossible
Something worth remembering: health insurance used to be NONprofit. Blue Shield, which bec Blue Cross & Blue Shield, went public in CA in 1996. They had to leave behind the money-over $4 billion - accumulated to cover claims. It was used to start 3 diff foundations en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Sh...

We’re all in. I ran a CA pub tv news magazine that pushed hard to educate people abt the adverse consequences of hyper partisan gerrymandering. But to go nonpartisan while TX & others run riot in an attempt to control what they do not have the actual votes to control is wrong. Protect democracy.
California has walked the walk on independent redistricting at the state level for 15 years. But we cannot unilaterally disarm while other states throw out the rules to gain power. With one vote, Californians can punch back and also demand nationwide independent redistricting.

The other thing that struck me: there were large buildings in the area nearby. When I asked what one large structure had been during the time of the camps, I was told it had been a beer hall. After a hard day of “work”…. I imagine that’s going on now. Cold beer after “work”.
About 15 years ago, I went to Auschwitz. I didn’t understand that it was originally a Polish military base taken over by the Germans. They then built the industrial killing site, Birkenau, nearby. When the war ended, they were partway through doubling its size.
