They look a lot like the California National Guardsmen I saw at the downtown Los Angeles protest yesterday. Those guardsmen had assault rifles, and the one I spoke to said they were carrying live ammo when I asked. He did also identify himself as California National Guard when I asked.

Yesterday after lunch, I walked to the federal building in downtown Los Angeles that has been at the center of the protests. I took this video. The only National Guard I saw were those few in front of the entrance. No Marine presence. Minimal LAPD. Quiet streets.
