Yesterday's Mayor's Order does not extend the Presidential emergency. It does the exact opposite. It lays out a framework to exit this period. I want the message to be clear to the Congress: We have a framework, and we don't need a Presidential emergency.
Last week, our outreach teams conducted a census of people living outside to ensure that resources are available to residents in need. Our progress continues and our message remains: We have shelter space available. We want you to come inside.
Trust between community and law enforcement is central to our city's safety. We're requesting that federal agents adhere to effective community policing practices—not wearing masks, clearly identifying their agency, and providing ID during arrests and encounters with the public.

Yesterday, we celebrated women getting the right to vote. We celebrated women who lead. But we also recognized that, in DC, the work for full equality continues. Only through statehood will we control our own destiny. That’s the Women’s Equality Day that I see in our future.
We're cheering on our students all week long—and today was extra special because we're celebrating the first day of pre-K! All across DC, we're rooting for our littlest learners as they get a strong start to school.

One of the ways we can come together as a city is by supporting our local restaurants. DC Summer Restaurant Week is extended to Sunday, August 31—giving residents and visitors five more days to book a reservation, visit neighborhood favorites, and support our service industry.

My message to DC residents.
Here's where we stand after today's announcement: we will follow the law, work with federal officials, and continue the work we do every single day to keep DC safe, beautiful, and the best city in the world.
DC is unique. While we pay taxes and uphold the responsibilities of citizenship, we're not a state. We don't control the DC National Guard and we don't have senators or full autonomy. That's why you've heard me and many other Washingtonians advocate for DC statehood.
Here's your reminder that it's street sweeping season! Make sure you pay attention to street signs and move your car to avoid fines. We can all play a role in keeping DC clean and beautiful all year long. 🧹

I am pleased to say—without equivocation—that we are delivering the best deal for DC to transform the RFK campus.
Here’s the deal. The RFK deal will create a new, vibrant neighborhood on the banks of the Anacostia River. And it will shift our economy, grow jobs and business opportunities, and bring our team home.
Reminder: The RFK deal isn’t just a stadium — it’s jobs, housing, park space, a SportsPlex, and a new waterfront community. 180 acres of vacant land, activated. This week, we have the chance to make DC history together. We can't let this window of opportunity close.

This is definitely not goodbye to Ben's Chili Bowl! The U St location of Ben's is closed for renovations, and its nearby pop-up is already open at 1208 U St. A DC institution through decades of change—we’ll be there when the doors reopen, and at other locations until then.
