Yesterday's Mayor's Order does not extend the Presidential emergency. It does the exact opposite. It lays out a framework to exit this period. I want the message to be clear to the Congress: We have a framework, and we don't need a Presidential emergency.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Last week, our outreach teams conducted a census of people living outside to ensure that resources are available to residents in need. Our progress continues and our message remains: We have shelter space available. We want you to come inside.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Trust between community and law enforcement is central to our city's safety. We're requesting that federal agents adhere to effective community policing practices—not wearing masks, clearly identifying their agency, and providing ID during arrests and encounters with the public.

Today, I issued Mayor's Order 2025-090 to provide the pathway forward beyond the Presidential emergency. Full text:

Yesterday, we celebrated women getting the right to vote. We celebrated women who lead. But we also recognized that, in DC, the work for full equality continues. Only through statehood will we control our own destiny. That’s the Women’s Equality Day that I see in our future.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
We're cheering on our students all week long—and today was extra special because we're celebrating the first day of pre-K! All across DC, we're rooting for our littlest learners as they get a strong start to school.

I know there’s a lot of anxiety in our city. DC residents are defending their city, promoting their city, and they are giving me ideas, talking to me, and trusting my judgement. Let me be clear: The surge of federal resources should be focused on violent crime in our city.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
DC residents are very concerned about each other, and they're very concerned about their rights as Americans. Today, I provided a situational update on the federal surge in our city. We need to be clear about what's working, what's not working, and what's next. 🔗 tinyurl.com/DCSituationalUpdate

Here's where we stand after today's announcement: we will follow the law, work with federal officials, and continue the work we do every single day to keep DC safe, beautiful, and the best city in the world.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
DC is unique. While we pay taxes and uphold the responsibilities of citizenship, we're not a state. We don't control the DC National Guard and we don't have senators or full autonomy. That's why you've heard me and many other Washingtonians advocate for DC statehood.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Here's your reminder that it's street sweeping season! Make sure you pay attention to street signs and move your car to avoid fines. We can all play a role in keeping DC clean and beautiful all year long. 🧹

The DC Council just passed, on first vote, the RFK Campus Redevelopment Act of 2025. We're bringing the Commanders home to RFK and we're activating 180 acres of opportunity on the banks of the Anacostia River. Can't stop, won't stop, never quit. My full statement:
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Today, the Council of DC holds their first vote on the RFK Deal. It’s time to get through the window of opportunity before it closes. We must deliver for DC.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
I’m asking for the DC Council's strong, unified vote to help shift our economy, grow jobs, grow business opportunities and to bring our team home. To borrow a phrase, this is a BFD. Very big. Story by Mike Murillo wtop.com/dc/2025/07/c...
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Throughout the RFK deal process, residents continue to make their voices heard. From community and small business meetings to Council hearings—1st on the BSA June 18, the 2nd this week—we’re grateful for all the additions, input, and feedback. Let's get the deal done.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
I am pleased to say—without equivocation—that we are delivering the best deal for DC to transform the RFK campus.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Here’s the deal. The RFK deal will create a new, vibrant neighborhood on the banks of the Anacostia River. And it will shift our economy, grow jobs and business opportunities, and bring our team home.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Reminder: The RFK deal isn’t just a stadium — it’s jobs, housing, park space, a SportsPlex, and a new waterfront community. 180 acres of vacant land, activated. This week, we have the chance to make DC history together. We can't let this window of opportunity close.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
One year ago, we hit our goal to build 36,000 homes. Now we have a chance to build more than 6,000 homes at the RFK campus. This deal is once-in-a-generation. Let’s get it done.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Our young people need mentorship, opportunity, and a clear path forward. And that's exactly what the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program is delivering for more than 13,000 DC youth this summer.

Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
Bringing the Commanders home is a great deal, but it's not a done deal. It's time to get it over the line.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
We're not trading housing for a stadium—we're using the momentum of the stadium to build more housing. ❌Without it, 180 acres of opportunity sit vacant. ✅With it, we build over 6,000 new units of housing in Ward 7. It's a win for our team, our city, and our residents.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)

DC is projected to lose 40K jobs in the next 4 years. We’ve secured control of RFK and have a once-in-a-generation deal with the Commanders: the largest private investment in DC history. We can't afford to wait. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We must deliver for DC.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (@mayorbowser.bsky.social)
