Given the stakes, it seems self-evident that Dems should go with someone who’s at least acceptable to the entire coalition. Sorting that out is what primaries are for.
If Newsom manages to get nominated after alienating a big chunk of the base then people will hold their noses and vote for him. Meanwhile, the fact that people say they would never vote for him in 2025 is an electability argument against him in the primaries. So keep that up.

I feel like there's a lot more "maybe it'll happen today" chatter than normal which makes me hope there's something in the air. I don't believe in God or Karma or psychic energy or anything like that, but just this once I would really like to believe in some kind of collective will.
