I thank commissions for that. I realized if I wanted to pay myself a reasonable hourly rate and not price myself out of the market, I just had to spend fewer hours. I don't cut any corners now, but I do spend less time second-guessing and redoing. I realized my first instincts are usually right.
I can't find any of my early COVID art. Looks like I didn't start publicly posting until 2021 was well underway. Thinking back, I'm not sure I've gotten much better, but I've gotten a HECKUVA lot faster. Something that used to take me weeks of agony now just takes a couple weeknights.

When I was a teenager, boys didn't like me, but that was OK, because I had all my Tekken 3 husbands. I have zero interest in later Tekken games or, indeed, learning any lore at all about the characters. Headcanon is supreme. Jin and Hwo are besties. That is all.

Productivity is a matter of choosing the correct soundtrack. Today, the soundtrack is from Tekken 3. Both the arcade version and the PlayStation version--don't make me choose.
It's dumb. I just need to bite the bullet and accept the waste.
I'm a weirdo. It's not really a cost issue. They're only like $10-20 now. I just know I'm going to be... still sitting on 80% of the cards in 5 years when I decide to completely reinvent myself as an artist, because that's already happened to me once, and throwing them away felt too weird.
I would love to do something like that. It makes sense to me to have a cat card and a dog card, at least. But I'd have to get 50 cards at a time of each design, and that feels like a waste for how slowly I'll probably go through them.

So, uh, I am *NOT* a graphic designer, and making business cards really intimidates me, even when I look up templates. Which pet portrait should I pick to put on my business cards? I’ll decide about color scheme based on this choice.

Old art: At Baby Quark's first vet visit, one of the techs took a pic of him getting weighed (1LB) in a little tub. I used Photoshop to put him in a teacup, composited some surroundings, and used clone brushes in Corel Painter to paint over it. This is essentially what I do at work, but cuter.

Tbh I don't know a single artist who isn't struggling right now and those that aren't are likely 1-2 gigs away from struggling, so all these AI stans talking about knocking down the "creative elite"... You aren't eating the rich you're eating your neighbors + helping the rich while you're at it.
Every artist I’ve ever known has this itch to create that won’t go away until they create. They have to do it. It’s why I know the “finally, someone like me can make art” AI users are full of shit. What they really mean is “finally, a way to get social media likes without hard work”.
