One thing that's fun to think about is that if this appeals court decision on using IEEPA for tariffs stands, the government will likely have to pay all those tariffs back. Back to the importer. Not to the consumer. It will be a profit bonanza and prices will never drop.
Honestly, I think a lot of politicians on both sides of the Atlantic got psyoped into viewing salt of the earth bigots as more authentic and worthy than them and thinking therefore they must ritually cleanse their sin of education by rolling in the gutter.

I'm repeating myself but the key to explaining Trump's love of tariffs is: He literally believes any money coming into the Federal gov't belongs to *him, personally*. So when importers pay tariffs, *Trump thinks he gets richer*. The fact that the cost is passed on to Americans is irrelevant to him.
National Guard people are just regular joes with jobs and families too that they're being pulled away from to stand around DC in the summer time in combat gear. Can't imagine many of them are thrilled.
The law he's mostly using, IEEPA, does not give tariff powers at all. Not even close. It's an absolute ridiculous use of vague wording to do this, and why it still might get struck down, but everything is lawless now so who knows if that would even matter. But yeah, IEEPA for tariffs is insane.
To be fair to CNN on this one (ugh) Trump's imposition of these new tariffs is wildly lawless and a complete invention by the President giving himself powers that did not exist anywhere in legislation, as someone who follows this stuff even I was naive enough to think that might have mattered.
