CA DoJ wrote in Newsom vs Trump briefs that federal troops' arrival brought out more protests. Also, the protests after Paramount were limited to like a 5 or 6 block area in downtown LA, maybe .2 sq miles in a city that's 500 sq miles. The protesters were largely focused on federal troops and ICE.

Trauma-informed journalism means you doubledown on informed consent, let the source choose the interview location, understand how reliving these events can retraumatize the source—and how sustained coverage affects children more heavily Hard to consider these things in the chaos of the aftermath

Imagery of children being led out after a lockdown and looking for parents You see one hugging his mom and immediately crowd around trying to get mom to say yes to an interview Have they even had a chance to process this together? No, they likely haven’t even gotten home yet

Lemme paint a picture here: there are usual dozens of cameras crowding around the perimeter of a shooting location, chasing after anyone who looks like they might have seen something; it’s chaos, frankly
Mel Buer (@melbuer.bsky.social) reply parent
Look man, yell at me in the comments all you want, but if you want to interview children who witnessed a mass shooting, the best time is probably not directly after such an event, before the family has any meaningful time to process what the hell just happened “It’s important!” Yeah? You can wait
