If autism rates are truly rising, and it's not just us having more diagnostic measures to identify it, I would hypothesize a source could be a particular illness which causes fever, because we've always had fevers, but new viruses can increase over time. Like, there are hundreds of different colds.
mere mortal (@mere--mortal.bsky.social) reply parent
I try to take these concerns seriously, so what if autism is actually caused by certain illnesses during pregnancy, and some mothers take Tylenol for some illnesses? That could account for this link-not-cause, like the old Coke causes Polio story everyone learned in Stats 101. I am not a doctor.

Nope, baked ziti is the Bluesky of baked pasta. Lasagna is the Mastodon of baked pasta, because I don't even know how to start making it.

"Why don't we do the song we rehearsed all day yesterday?" is what makes this art. I mean, it wasn't the best version of that song I've ever heard, but their tweaking the fiction of an impromptu collaboration was great.

I feel so badly that I missed this SNL sketch. "Ultimately, Supermajority Thinking leads to a pro-growth, pluralist, all-terrain populism—a populism that can go anywhere, and is not artificially cordoned off to a certain set of issues"

It is a grotesque inversion of the first best principle of the organized religions (though they consistently fail). You are advocating "do unto others every evil they want to do".

Trump will probably steal all the gold medals and replace them with replicas, like he did after that FIFA thing. "We could take it as an opportunity to make the upcoming Olympics the best that's ever happened"

Is this sarcasm?

Wait, what? This wasn't ironic? "A group of crypto investors funded the golden statue..."

The look is more amazing when you catch them in a heist. One got stuck in my curbside collection garbage bin, so I dumped him out away from me. He crawled out, turned to me, and asked "are you a cop?", then ran off.

Excellent. However, by 2007 we were already three years into a war against a country that never attacked the United States. All bets were off. Hmm, 2007, was Ezra still sleeping on your couch?

Police have always had instances of corruption and injustice, but Frazier v. Cupp (1969), which allows the police to lie to suspects, must have contributed to our current state where you simply cannot trust the police at all. Ask any lawyer whether you should ever talk to the police.

Spy Game is far darker than Sneakers, and because of that darkness I never sought it out for repeated viewings as I have with Sneakers. But it is quite good.

It is a masterpiece. The cast is beyond ridiculous, and I assume that's what you would expect from every actor when they hear Redford was attached. It has two of the best scenes of rising tension ever in movies, the Scrabble scene and the telephone tracking scene.

I always call this "Bring Me the Head of Johnny Mnemonic", and while it was quite bad, it had the single best Keanu Reeves scene in any of his movies, the outburst after Ice-T tries to drop a Beetle on him. Right up there for any movie, alongside Griffin Dunne's rant in After Hours.

Saw this on opening night, the first and only movie I ever attended with hype guys and free movie-related stuff. They were throwing Krull frisbees into the audience, and I think a local karate school had their students do a performance for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The 80s were weird.

It has been this way since forever. There's actually a name for it, "symbolic politics", where you get votes by appealing to prejudices and hate and make speeches assuring that hate is good, but keep everything working. The modern Republican party is being run without the last part. We're fucked.
