Hard to say, since we haven't really fielded the complete Astros since about April.

Also homelessness. We need to be touting the success of housing first initiatives in cities like Houston and San Diego.

If at some point in the future we get to pass some voting rights legislation, requiring every state to allocate its congressional districts through non-partisan methods should be near the top of the list. Texas has more Democratic voters than Massachusetts. We have almost zero voice.

I go back and forth on this so much. I love so much about this state and would be heartbroken to leave it. I love living in the most diverse city in the country. I'd like to think we can turn the tide back. But on the other hand, it often feels hopeless.
Actually, no. California and New York, the largest blue states, both use an independent commission to draw their district lines to avoid partisan gerrymandering. So does Washington State. I'm sure others as well if you look into it.
Point is, Texas is filled with innocent people who, indeed, did not vote for this. Around 47% of us voted for her, and obviously no child voted at all. To me, this tragedy is compounded by the fact that so many adults failed these kids in so many ways. Kids never deserve to pay for adults' mistakes.
We've visited Kerrville (from Houston) several times, most memorably in the summer of 2020 just to have some different scenery during the pandemic. Driving through Kerrville's small downtown that weekend, there was a brave band of people having a BLM march.

As a Houstonian, I'm offended when rural Texas tries to say that the blue cities aren't "real Texas." We're the majority of the population and the vast majority of the tax base. We subsidize the red parts of Texas. Houston is the US's most diverse city and we ARE Texas.
Whether the current leadership of my state likes to admit it or not, there are also two Texases. We need to protect the one that looks like yours on the left.
