In fairness, what Musk is doing can more aptly be described as creating “Artificial Intelligence” than what LLMs actually are.

Jacques Demy is a wizard. Best thing about this (to me) is the central conceit is played so straight by every character that it immediately gets out of the way and allows the film to interrogate social norms, exploitative industry, and opportunistic culture without feeling contrived.

I’m all for advancing artistic medium, but I feel like having dry leaves and cloth apples flying at your head is the opposite of immersion? Like it *seems* immersive if you don’t think about it for more than 5 seconds. The future of cinema was apparently in Gallagher’s act this whole time.

I’ve sat with this for 24 hours and I’m still unsure how I feel about it. It’s a great film, but it’s a tough watch. It is an interesting work, but it meanders and stumbles over itself. It has incredibly real characters that feel over the top. It’s unique but weirdly feels pedestrian.

Feels like a very different style from the later 50s and 60s. I’ve never gotten this vibe from Updike, Salinger, Bradbury, etc. Of course not Hemingway either… It feels more romantic than modern. Which I could understand as a choice reflecting the narrator’s intentions and want for sympathy.
