Again, it's August, and Trump hasn't taken a Summer holiday this year. But that in itself is odd. In his first term, Trump spent most of August in Bedminster pretty much every year.
What's most confusing is that there seems to have been an increase in recent weeks of the number of days Trump isn't seen in public. There were a few days after the Euro leaders meeting where he wasn't seen. And this week, he hasn't been seen since Wednesday's cabinet meeting.
First of all, Trump is 79. He's the oldest man ever to take the oath of office. And he has some health issues that have been officially acknowledged. But the White House have insisted he's fine. And it's true that when he's seen in public, he's quite spritely for a man his age.
All of that being said, there are a number of reasons this rumour has taken hold so easily - and they're worth exploring.
Trump hasn't got anything on his schedule for this weekend. This is not unusual. In fact, it's quite rare for him to schedule events on the weekend. No events on Monday either, which is not unusual because it's Labor Day, a public holiday.

If you combine DC with Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County (as anyone who's ever been there would), you get a population of nearly 5 million, and a murder rate of 7.72 per 100k - about a quarter of what Trump's graph claims.
The same year, there were 187 murders in Washington DC. Too many, but how come DC is so much higher on the graph? Because DC is a small city centre of 700k people, surrounded by suburbs/counties each of which has its own Police Department and crime stats...and massively fewer murders.
To start with, let's talk about Bogota. Bogota's crime stats are a) very bad and b) calculated based on the city and surrounding suburbs. Works out to about 8 million people. There were nearly 1200 murders in Bogota in 2024.
