Chris Carter didn’t do it any favors by caving to Fox after s2 and removing G. Morgan and Wong as showrunners because Fox thought it was “too dark.” Also, I think 80% of my favorite X-Files and Millennium episodes were written by D. Morgan.

Sooo good. IIRC the Jose Chung character first appeared on the brilliant s2 episode of Millennium that skewered Scientology. s2 of Millennium is one of the least-remembered great TV seasons.

Unsurprisingly to you, my pick is not Tommy. 1) Let It Bleed 1A) The Velvet Underground 1B) Arthur

I’ve had a fearful, miserable day, and almost every place of refuge has felt unsafe today (except my relationship). Big hugs.

Adam Sessler sharing a post from the very accomplished son of one of my grad school History professors is like bathing in the warm glow of a happy Venn diagram overlap. Ok, a lot of words just to say “worlds collide!” But it’s a small moment of joy in the current hellscape, and I’ll take it!

Went to a community reunion on Saturday night and saw people I had not seen in literally 40 years.

If that’s the only way to avoid that left.
Miles Goosens (@milesgoosens.bsky.social)
Y’all have no idea how far I will drive out of my way to avoid an ungoverned left turn.

I give you joy of it!

Was about to read aloud to my fiancée the story of how you came to live in Chaos House, but looks like only this tendril of the thread survives. 😢 (I have absolute faith that the deletion was necessary, unless the House itself somehow possessed your phone and deleted it.)

Loving all this praise for the first movie! I think it’s fantastic, and I don’t mind it taking its time. Then again, I like the original Solaris and s1 of The Leftovers, so maybe don’t listen to me.

Ken Russell’s Gothic is the first thing that came to mind for me. Brooding, aristocrats, real poets and authors, some quasi-history, gonzo director, plus a cast that includes Gabriel Byrne, Natasha Richardson, and Julian Sands’ hair. m.imdb.com/title/tt0091...

Just watched the s2 finale of Severance. It’s been two months since it first aired, which is long enough to stop worrying about spoilers. So yeah, I was NOT expecting that big Joan Severance vs Doc Severinsen fight at the end.

The best dialogue in any Lucas movie is 100% Harrison Ford ad libs.

Then I thought about how literally no one said that Fred Lynn was a malingerer, even though like Eric, he couldn’t stay on the field because he dove for balls, crashed into walls, etc. And it hit me like a ton of bricks what the difference between them was. My eyes were opened.
Miles Goosens (@milesgoosens.bsky.social) reply parent
I think the first time that I “got” racism in baseball was how my fellow Reds fans perceived Eric Davis. They saw him as a physically gifted but underachieving malingerer, despite the fact that his injuries were often caused by his hustle - diving to make catches, stealing bases, etc. (1 / 2)

I realize it’s March 2025, but if you’d like a heap of songs I loved from last year, I’ve still got your hookup. Spotify link in the status; I’ll put the YouTube version in the comments.

Pope George Ringo. I have been making this joke since 1978, and probably will keep making it.

I normally agree, but (1) I have been living at my mom's since her death in 2013, (2) it's 30-50 minutes away from a supermarket or other shopping,(3) I work 8-5 M-F (remotely), and (4) I am nearly night-blind, so having extra daylight after work makes A LOT of things more possible for me right now.

Ooooh! Even with my adjunct history prof career likely behind me (a job I likely would have lost by refusing to lie about the past to my state-school students), this intrigues me.

I was surprised when you went back to Talia, but it wasn’t my business to ask. You’re super-awesome, and you have my support on this journey, wherever it takes you.

A lot of the off-year southern state election cycles are that way to keep turnout down in the post-Reconstruction South. They’d say it was to insulate state politics from being inflamed with national-election passions or such, but it was really to suppress turnout.

Kelly and I play Wordle and Connections every day, and compare our results. She also does the timed mini-crossword, but I haven’t succumbed to it yet.

If the streets weren’t full after Bush v Gore, where an already-corrupt Supreme Court basically delivered the White House to an unelected junta, it’s not gonna happen. Our society will just shrug and roll over.

Egad! Hope this gets alleviated quickly.
