🩼 Rare conditions are managed in primary care all the time: • Motor neurone disease (~0.01% of population) • Multiple sclerosis (~0.2% of population) • Paediatric growth hormone deficiency (~0.01% of population) GPs prescribe these meds daily, usually with shared care from specialists.
💊 Off-label prescribing is routine. • Amitriptyline for chronic pain (licensed for depression) • Gabapentin for neuropathy (licensed for epilepsy) • Clonidine for ADHD or hot flushes (licensed for hypertension) If this was a real barrier, half of UK patients wouldn’t get their medication!
