My parents lived through communism. Communists killed the intelligentsia post WWII and elevated garbage by giving them enough power to keep the population submissive and ensure loyalty to them. I’m sure this is textbook of any totalitarian regime, communism is just one flavor of it.
Bannon is awful, but a Dem can find common ground with him as he despises the Tech oligarchs and has often criticized the Trump admin for getting too cozy with them. He thinks tech companies have too much power and should be more regulated! Bannon is still a piece of shit but he is right here.
I disagree and I think this fear of starting ww3 is what Putin also uses to his advantage to deter the West from helping the smaller fish he wants to eat. Putin’s goal is to recreate the old USSR. He views us as meddling in his internal affairs probably, just like an abuser who beats his wife.
What I am saying is that the collective WE, the western world, should have been more forceful with Russia in 2014. By 2022, we did much better, fueled by, the incredible resilience of the Ukranians who everyone expected to fold in 2 weeks after Russia invaded. You don’t hope with Putin. You just do.
Cut off Russia from the entire financial system for once in 2014, which we absolutely had the power to do. Restrict traveling. The sanctions we placed on them, IIRC were only for certain things/industries/people. Of course, Europe continued to import energy from Russia, so it wasn’t just the US.
But Harris explained it too. There is so much you can do when you have the entire media apparatus who is highlighting to the public things that are meaningless and don’t help educate them when selecting a president.
I am thankful Powell is still there, but his mandate expires next May. God help us if Trump appoints a sycophant in that role. Powell seems determined to keep steady and do his job to the very end, despite the pressure from Trump to lower interest rates when Trump wants him to.
I agree with all of this- and much of it was explained by the Dems before the election as well for those paying attention. But unfortunately, all people could see was the blaring increase in the cost of groceries and Republicans exploited it of course as they knew it was a weakness for Dems.
It’s 2.7%, not bad considering the Fed target of 2%, but even they think that’s probably not realistic, but we’ll have to see what all these tariffs will bring. I don’t think we’re seeing their impact yet because businesses still have inv left purchased pre tariffs, and Donnie keeps TACO-ing.
I agree that Biden was better than Obama when it comes to foreign policy. Domestic too, though in retrospect he should have kept a tighter leash on the govt spending post covid as that was blamed for the inflation in prices, that was ultimately one of the things people were upset with him about.
He lives in his own reality and has figured that the idiots who support him will believe whatever lies be feeds them. The only way to counteract his lies is to have a functioning media who will call him out and Dem pols to grow a spine and fight back.
Tougher sanctions to start. There are other ways in the foreign policy toolbox that presidents have. I like Obama, but foreign policy was his weakness. He said he’d take strong actions against Assad for using chemical weapons, but did not do much to stop him either.
He should have been a lot tougher on Russia than he was. The sanctions imposed were not punitive enough. Recall that he laughed at Mitt Romney, his opponent in 2012 when Romney called Russia our biggest foe at the time. He underestimated Putin.
He eats the shit that Trump allows him to eat. That’s his role. Dig deeper into that spineless motherfucker. His day will come.

Denmark, Sweden and Norway are not socialist countries. They do not control the means of production. They have free capital markets and generous social benefits. If he models his proposals after Sweden and not Venezuela, we can talk again.

The subway system in NYC is probably one of the most bloated and inefficient systems. We get dirty subways and the prices keep increasing. I hope he truly does something about it but considering the power of unions there and his alignment, I doubt it.
