I am neither a Swiftie (though I do adore her music) nor a Chiefs fan (but I think he’s adorable), and I am still so charmed by this romance. The podcast episode is so good. What a delight in these terrible days.
I cleaned my shower tile yesterday with that stuff! Today I mopped and I feel like I should do so much more, but I’m telling myself that is enough for now.

My dad’s cancer was in remission after a stem cell transplant from me for a decade. It’s now morphed into a more aggressive form of leukemia. Frank wanted to help however he could, so we’re doing the American Cancer Society’s a mile a day dog walk in September. www.facebook.com/share/1C4efy...

I love Vonnegut and most all Cold War sci fi. My to read list would last several lifetimes. These days, though, I prefer to read on my kindle. One hand, light, backlit.
The older I get, the more grateful I am for my love of reading. It’s truly not a pedantic thing. I am just so so grateful.
You can trace a straight line from me reading books much too old for me as a kid to my PhD. America is a bunch of bullshit, but it somehow let this working class, public school educated introvert achieve something only about 1% of the population has achieved. I rarely celebrate that.
Thank god for books. I don’t know where I’d be without becoming an avid reader from my early years, but I know I owe all my success to reading good books by good authors. The humanities are the foundation for all intellectual development, and you can’t prove to me otherwise.

I’m surveilling my dad’s MyChart while he’s in the hospital, and it’s pretty cool that he’s now AB+ blood type (mine! His was A+ before the transplant).

Not great news but not terrible. Maintenance chemo for life and another injection of my cells to “boost” him. No cure, no remission. Maybe management, if his body responds. But now that’ll be delayed since he’s sick.
Welp, there it is. Took dad to the oncologist on Tuesday with a white count of nearly zero and now he has a fever. It’s going to be a long year.

I find crying to be physically painful and super embarrassing. This explains so much about my particular brand of trauma (I am fine, btw.)
Six years of continuous therapy, and today is the first session I’ve cried (ok, only got teary. No tears actually fell). That’s a lot of stiff upper lip Protestant damage, my friends.
I got my mammogram at 8:45 this morning and the all clear message at 11:45. That’s impressive!

Today is the first day of my 20th year teaching (8 secondary; 12 university). It's hard to believe, but it's still such a joy. Even when the world or my private life is burning down, teaching has provided me a steady way through the chaos. So grateful!

This has been a really hard week. Until this week, I haven’t understood how emotional load affects cognitive load. It’s so embarrassing because I’ve been unstoppable for 20 years, since my divorce (that no one knew about) my first year of teaching. Turns out that “dad probably dying” is a lot.

I've been working with a law professor the last few months as she redesigns her course, and that woman is a FORCE. I love her.

Even though I insisted that I am terrible in verbal form AND not an assessment expert beyond writing-as-assessment, I'm going to be on the assessment episode of a colleague's Critical Literacy in the Age of AI podcast next week. I am terrified.

Dogs are the best. I just watched the 14.5 year old grandma dog chase a ball and then steal it from underneath the young dog. My favorite time of day is throwing tennis balls in the yard. I’ve only nearly given Frank heat stroke half a dozen times this year.
We've visited there--it's definitely insane. It was like an enclave for them since everyone hated them after the war.
