most of the time it's the world. some cool "what if" pops up in my mind that would create an interesting ability or phenomena...character comes after that interacts with said ability/phenomena
This might be a bit far fetched though...like I said still a work in progress.
To be honest, telepathy is still a work in progress. Some of the species in the world tap into this ability via technology, so maybe it's the tech that enables telepathic communication. I was thinking telepathy might work via vibrating atoms, minuscule waves moving from one atom to the next.
As I've stated before, one of my favorite things about #worldbuilding is using it as a reason to research and learn about our own universe. Utilizing existing knowledge and facts as fodder for my own world building.

+1 for floating islands!! Do they drift or is there a way for them to be directed?? Thinking a bit more about it..."drivable" floating islands creates some pretty heinous geopolitic issues!
Cool concept! Are you planning on storylines that include outsiders trying to infiltrate the cavern city? Are there any specific traits an outsider would have to mimic to successfully blend in??
What #worldbuilding are you currently working on? I'm building out a "magic" system that stems from the ability to manipulate and monitor at the atomic level for things like matter transmutation, levitation, telekinesis and telepathy to name a few. This can be accessed biologically or via tech.

Then the idea of just using a star map...duh...here's a work in progress. I also get to play with watercolors and hexies!
Not sure why I didn't think of using a star map before when trying to talk about the piece of lore in my #worldbuilding project...but for whatever reason I was stuck on trying to draw a scene depicting planets and energy flowing and perspective and background..and..and...was getting super stressed.
One of the things I love about #worldbuilding is the excuse to go down rabbit holes you find super cool in support of your world...ie...Google searching for "fictional star maps"...there are some really bad ass maps available for inspiration!!

I've been trying to figure out how to make floating sky island "possible", still not fully there yet, but it lead me to asking "what is it about warmer air that makes it 'rise'". And found out that there's also the displacement by the colder, more dense air moving toward the earth.
One of the things I find awesome about #worldbuilding is learning new things about our world. By continually challenging the phenomena in my AlphaCore project I have to ask myself, "how could it happen" with our the physics and natural laws.

Zoya is a member of the guild responsible for cultivating the flora that delivers gases enabling the structures to float in Nebiym's atmosphere. Sounds much better the planet PA and character PAS-1
Working on the script for my next #worldbuilding YouTube video. It discusses the lore around the floating sky structures. It was sounding really weird to have place holders for the setting and character so spent some time deciding on Zoya as the name of the inhabitant of the planet Nebiym.
