Baseball has brief moments of exertion but is a lot of standing around / sitting while also being non-contact. Obviously each position is a little different, but that’s mostly the case. There’s a reason baseball’s season has twice as many games and has double headers.
The reason they're able to do 162 games in 182 days, sometimes with double headers, is because the sport just isn't all that taxing. There are more taxing sports who don't partake in over-celebrating a playoff spot.

Do I think Dubas was too slow to move off the core? Yes. Do I think he was ready to do it in summer 2023? Yes. Do I think Shanahan would have tied Dubas' hands if it got to that? Absolutely.
Typically when you have great possession metrics like this, goals follow. But so many Preds had down years last year and it torpedoed their playoff chances. I think they’ll be sniffing around a wild card slot this year.
Interesting thing about this is that Nashville had the 19th-highest PP TOI in the league last year, so this isn’t skewed by powerplay possession. (They should have just used ES, but alas.) Preds scored 137 goals (32nd) on 170 expected goals (20th) last year at ES and had the league’s 18th-best PP.
As someone who isn’t as smart as you but works in the data analysis / visualization field and understands most concepts, I do think you’re right that if you presented things in a more accessible way you might see your work have more influence.

I don't think it's likely, and I hope the sun explodes if it does happen, but I think there's now a non-zero chance that the Canadiens could finish the season above the Leafs.
I was definitely in his corner, feeling he wasn't being given enough opportunity. Also felt a lot of people were forgetting how disruptive the pandemic and injuries were to his development. But if junky low-quality shooter is going to be his play style, I don't think that's useful.

I was calling for Marner to be traded after the Montreal series. Nothing personal against him (at the time), but the Leafs had to move away from this failed experiment and he made the most sense.
With all the new Marner drama, here’s what sticks with me: Losing a 100-point winger to free agency should be riot-level news for the Leafs fanbase. Instead… nobody seems that bothered. What does that say about how fans feel about Marner or the whole Core Four experiment? They're done with it.
Why does it have to be viewed as devaluing one or the other? HR and Comms have similar mandates. Perhaps it made sense in this instance to streamline those functions. I still haven’t seen an articulation of how the Minister of Labour’s mandate differs from the Minister of Jobs & Families.

Since 2015-16, there have been 65 instances where a goalie started 40%+ of their team's games with a save percentage of .920+. Those numbers were replicated in back-to-back years by a goaltender just 8 times in 10 seasons. I see some Stolarz projections out there which may be a little too hopeful.

Jake Gardiner changed how I used hockey analytics. I'm still very much an advanced stats guy. I used to cite his underlyings all the time to defend him. But his penchant for catastrophe changed how much emphasis I placed on *the results*. Some guys just never figure out the mental side of things.
IMO it's definitely a component of why they lost, but perhaps I'm biased by my cynicism about the American electorate. They were both very impressive and dignified candidates. Wish things were different: AOC rocks.

There’s a non-zero chance Grebenkin outscores Dakota this season. Don’t make that trade and you come into this season with Roy as 3C, a first, and Grebenkin.
Also it pains me greatly that we paid a first for a guy who’s been shoved down to the fourth line C spot. Leafs need to open up another slot to get him up the lineup: McMann or Robertson probably get moved at some point.
Like even if you’re not sold on him long-term, why not give him extended time with these guys to pump up his value and offload at a high?
