Similar story here but for Don Quixote. My Spanish is horrible- grammar, pronunciation- Mexican spouse kids me that I sound Russian. But I persist and I’ve found when I am in Mexico people there are forgiving of my odd syntax and accent.

Interesting thread! This got me thinking. Can’t recall a book I utterly hated. Didn’t like, yes. Hate, no. But I am embarrassed to admit I hate-watch Young & the Restless and Bold & the Beautiful. Fell into habit when I was recovering from injury. Often tempted to throw remote.

Bought the book a little over a year ago and thought it was one of the most important books I’ve ever read. It stunned me. Post election, I say it’s *the* most important book I’ve read.

Next year I hope! I’m on the other side of the pond. My sisters and I went to Scotland, birth place of our mom, a couple years ago. We absolutely loved it, plan to go back. We’re Americans, grew up hearing various accents of our relatives so your beautiful friendly country felt a wee bit like home.
Oh wow! Next time I go to Scotland I need to check this out. Looks delightfully quirky and timeless.
