You say you don’t understand tone and I think that’s clear through your choice of language. It indicates arrogance, gatekeeping, and a belief that this isn’t just your perspective, but the only way to look at a game series
You said my argument is borderline laughable. You heavily implied I have no knowledge of the series or the history of its creators, meaning I was talking out my arse. You argued with a video you later confessed you haven’t watched, and changed the argument when I introduced parts you didn’t like.
Those videos have explained the creator’s intentions - pulling from interviews they’ve given - looking at each game’s design philosophy, how they achieve that very-important horror tone and what inspired them
If you haven’t watched my videos on the series I’m suddenly questioning what the point of your condescending rant was. I’ve written hundreds of thousands of words and created over a dozen hours of video content - and counting - deconstructing RE in depth.
There are more RE games that pull from point and click than there are that pull from beat-em-ups. Especially because your comparison focuses mainly on movement, just one small part of the early design
You say it’s superficial, but that’s what inspired the original creators. I also fundamentally disagree. By your reading, RE7, Village, the Revelations games are less ‘Resident Evil’ than RE5. And you’re forgetting the importance of that design on 0 and CV, and how that’s returned in the modern era.
I’d argue it has far more in common with point and click adventures because the central design revolves massive puzzle boxes. It’s direct inspiration was a turn-based RPG in sweet home. Tone’s also the most important thing here. RE had a horror tone that got diluted once it reached 5.

I’m excited for Hell is Us, and would devour it if it was out right now, but I’m worried that committing to the September 4th release date and bashing into Silksong will kill it.
RE6 is a disaster but I like it more than 5 so I think you'll be alright! Aside from Wesker, everything 5 gets praised for is better in 6 imo.

I am years late but the Snowpiercer TV show is absolutely fantastic. Coming up on the end of Season 2 and it hasn’t had one bad episode. Pulpy political thriller with excellent character writing. The movie is also a fun action romp. I’m halfway through the first graphic novel and it’s kickass too!

I can’t believe that people look at it as a step down from 7 cause this game fucking slaps. 7 might have a stronger first half, but Village is consistently great until the 90% mark. I’m someone who likes the factory though so take that with a pinch of salt.
If you cut the mishandling of Chris Redfield, #ResidentEvil Village is a tight, tense, fun horror that’s more consistent than RE7. It holds up 4 years later, even with my nitpicks.

I like the tone and atmosphere exploring the Zenobia. By the time we get to A THIIIRD SHIP OH MY GOODNESS the plot devolves from good natured eye-rolling to “when will this end?” and there are only so many times I can run from one side of a sinking ship to another before it gets tedious 😂
Resident Evil: Revelations has a great first half and then my god does it just crater in the second half. Replayed it as prep for my RE7 analysis and I think Koshi Nakanishi has an Act 3 problem. Curious if he’s figured it out for RE9

They aren’t. That actor did a damn good job with terrible material. The changes from the movie are also terrible. I expect a stage show of one of my favourite films to add to the existing story, not half-ass new concepts.
Hercules himself was great. Meg also great. Hades seemed… confused. No blue hair? A red coat? He seemed like an addled grandpa rather than the conman of the movie. Phil was… a lot. The show thinks they’re onto something with the Rocky-esque Trainer angle.
Mid-Cules. The Muses saved it. 2/5.
