I am not a scientologist. I hate scientology. I hate cults of all kind. I have no motive other than explaining why you are wrong about your misunderstanding of how this process works. Why you are wrong about these letters being supportive. You misunderstood the process and refuse to learn.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I also want to know where Shelley is. So stop acting like I'm defending this rapist idiot. I'm simply explaining a legal process which isn't about defending him. No, their words did not suggest leniency through other words either. They simply provided context for the judge to decide relevancy.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
Because it's a spinoff? Why is that a question?
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I already answered your questions. I'm answering honestly. You seem not to be familiar with this fairly standard legal process. Not my fault. I strongly condemn Danny Masterston and anybody like him. I just think it's better that people don't misunderstand this process, which wasn't defending him.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes I read them. It's not asking for leniency. They're bringing up things they think could be relevant for the judge to consider when sentencing, but not making a recommendation on that. They're leaving it to the judge to decide what is or is not relevant and for what reason.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
My answer to that question would depend on the circumstances. It's not about defending anybody, but about providing context to achieve a correct sentencing. Whether I would provide the requested letter or not would spend on whether I have any relevant context. The letter did not ask for leniency.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't agree that it's a letter of support, or even that it necessarily asks for leniency. Just that it asks for their experiences to be taken into account, whatever the judge decides is relevant about those experiences. I don't have the ability to answer your question in relevance to myself.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
It's not a letter of support. They didn't support him. They believed and supported the victims. It was requested to provide context of the kind of person they knew in the past. The judge factors context like that in how sentencing is decided.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
To me defending him would mean suggesting he didn't do what he was accused of, which isn't the case. They supported and believed the victims. Their letter had nothing to do with that. Testimony to character history can be a factor in how a judge decides sentencing, but is not defending his actions.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
She was only describing her experience with the person she knew at the time she knew him, which was long before any allegations came out. She wasn't describing what she thought of him in the present time after the conviction. It's a common practice, and doesn't speak to the charges at all.

She didn't defend him, she was requested by the family to provide a statement about his character from her perspective (not speaking about the case at all), and did so, but then yes, she did absolutely apologize for it.

Rewatching one of the best adaptations of Spider-man. The only better adaptation imo is the Insomniac game series. But Spectacular also focuses on a younger Pete in a way those games can't, and is so good at that.

The vast majority of AI usage involves no payment at all. There are of course companies who do sell a product with AI, but much of what it's being used for doesn't generate money at all.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
They'll just pay the CEOs more lol Profits divided by number of employees would probably be a good scaling factor for a progressive tax rate though. Business does really need progressive rates. The mostly flat rates we have now are much harder on smaller businesses.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
This is an increase to business taxes. It doesn't reduce taxes anywhere. The concept is good, because it means people will still be able to live happy lives even as automation takes away jobs. The problem is there's no great way to implement it objectively.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you'd need a general progressive tax rate for businesses that grows the larger the business is. Right now you don't really have that and the current rates are much harder on small businesses. Larger businesses are more likely to make use of robots/AI, and are more able to pay, so focus there
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I've always said this, but it's not as simple as it seems. It's not like you have one robot per person, it's not like all robots do the same work, etc. How you measure how much to tax them is basically impossible to figure out in an objective way.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
There's basically zero chance this will happen, at least for very long. Fox News and the sports makes YouTube way too much money to lose them. They're playing a bluff as a negotiation tactic.

Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm glad that Disney is finally pushing streaming to AFTER the physical release. Now do the same for digital, and watch other studios follow suit. Physical should be treated as the premium format.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
The pandemic didn't inherently change how people interact with the world overall. People just expect they don't need to wait long to stream because of how that changed during the pandemic. Get rid of that expectation, and you bring basically the entire theatrical audience back.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
Ticket prices are currently less than they were pre covid, when you adjust for inflation. Theaters shut down for a bit, obviously, but the only reason they were less successful after they opened was because studios gave people the expectation that they wouldn't need to wait long to see it digitally.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
Most theaters have a lot of screens. They don't need to be on IMAX for the whole run.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
No, the longer the wait is, the less people you will have that are willing to be patient. Nothing has changed about the theater/home experience aside from the wait.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
No, all of that existed before the pandemic. That didn't change anything. Everybody knew they could wait 4 months to watch at home and avoid theaters if they didn't like that experience, and a much smaller number of people did it, because that's a long wait.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, all of that has existed for a very long time now. It's not new. The reduction in box office only happened when the wait between theaters and home became significantly shorter.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
All of that has always existed. The main difference now is that people think they can wait a month for digital. For a month or slightly more, they can be patient. That's just a few weeks. If they realize they're not going to see digital any time soon, that's when they'll deal with the theater.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I think we are in that era. The only reason people wait for digital is because they know it's coming shortly after the theatrical release. If you only have to wait a month, people are going to be willing to wait. If they think they have to wait half a year, they won't be as patient.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
That only happened because audiences got used to movies coming to streaming quickly. You take that away, theaters come back. They won't wait 6 months.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
You're misunderstanding. It's not about week to week, it's about *overall* box office. When people get into the expectation that they won't need to wait long for digital, a lot less people go to theaters in the first place. If people had to wait 6 months, you'd have bigger opening weekends for ex.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying the less time people think they need to wait to see something at home, the less people will go to the theaters in the first place. We need to get people used to waiting longer again, which will increase the number of people going to theaters.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
That is strongly false. The expectation that people won't need to wait long to see something at home has dramatically reduced people's willingness to go to theaters.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope you can push the studio to keep DCU movies exclusive to the theaters for longer next time. These short theatrical windows have too much of a negative impact on box office.

Those subtle lift offs, where flying is just as easy to Superman as walking, were something the Christopher Reeve movies did well, as well as Superman Returns. I love how instinctive it makes flight look for the character. Obviously for moments where speed matters the blast off makes sense.
Andy Gilleand (@morphinapg.bsky.social) reply parent
I really liked this but I do hope there are more moments going forward where Superman doesn't just blast off at a million miles per hour every time he flies. There was one moment at the end with Lois where he just subtly lifts up and I love moments like that with Superman. I wish there were more.
