That makes sense to me. Helldivers has a different density for sure. For me, when Tyranid soup happens, I can shut off the part of my perception that sees each Tyranid and sort of run on more basic instinctive reactions. Hear the parry noise, hit the parry button. See an attack coming, hit block.
I worry sometimes that I'm too good at tuning out details. I've spent years of my life playing games and developing my pattern recognition to remove all unnecessary stimuli from my perception. Makes me wonder how much of the actual artistic expression of the environments and effects I'm missing.

The former artist can't expect to make a living generating images, because we all know generated images are worthless. So they'll either do something else (like work in the factories as the currently dominant U.S. political party wants) or become a prompt engineer for the corporation's images.
At most, the pixel selection algorithm is a cheap replacement for human labor, which will be used by corporations to generate what they need. That's the John Henry analogue. If the common artist starts using it, they're not an artist anymore. They're a consumer of the "AI" company.
It's funny how people with a long view can sometimes fall to defeatism. This fight is this fight, and two fights are never the same. John Henry was doing the same exact thing that the steam machine was. Artists making art are not doing the same thing that the pixel selection algorithm is doing.

So much of what's wrong in this culture is because the people who make real impactful decisions are insulated from seeing the people they impact. Imagine the owner of an establishment being the real person behind the counter. Imagine being able to actually talk to them about their store.
People don't even remember that small businesses used to exist anymore. Just having one single store or restaurant, and not trying to make it a franchise. Just sell good things in one place.
I'm old enough to remember Dubya earning the gold medal as history's-most-stupid-president. I wish I could still say that was true today. I also wish the stupid ones would stop somehow being two-termers.

Final point: there's FOMO that's being fostered by not being an early adopter. But this completely negates the point of why AI is supposedly important and useful, which is its ease of use. If all I need to do is write a request in English to use AI, what skill am I going to miss developing, exactly?
My problem is the way it's being forced into everything as if it was a sonic screwdriver. It's not that useful yet. When it is, I'll adopt it if I want to.
If it's a good tool that will fill a need that I have, I will use it. I currently don't need to outsource my critical thinking. I don't have a need to generate images in general, nor video. I don't need a virtual confidant.
