Welcome to the club! Marc Elias and the Democracy Docket provide a daily dose of much needed hope.
Baptized a Catholic, but born an atheist, Democrat, Red Sox fan... Boston since I reached the age of reason, but OFW (Originally from Worcester). Occasionally comment, seldom post. All things considered, I'd rather be in Ireland (especially Galway).

My father died when I was 21, 54 years ago. His memory is absolutely a blessing, as I'm sure that of your father's is to you.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
What a lovely memory. My dad didn't cook, but every Sunday, after Mass, he picked up a dozen Dunkin Donuts. A sweet memory but not a tradition I follow!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely. On all sorts of policy issues. Then, when the time comes, we'll be ready to be our own mighty little country. (Nice if the "Live Free or Die" holdouts joined us, but their loss.)
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Roberts' legacy: replacing Roger Taney as the worst CJ ever. (The best I can say about Roberts is that, while he's helping destroy the country, at least he's no Roland Freisler.)
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Wow. Even by Laura Loomer "standards", this is quite something.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Beyond self parody.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Dropkicks are great, and, as their tee-shirt has it, they've been "Fighting Nazis since 1996." They've been a known quantity around here for years. The Red Sox (and other teams) play "Shipping Up to Boston" at some crucial point during a game, and the Red Sox play "Tessie" after each game.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
These craven nitwits give toadies a bad name.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Gotta be a sleeper car price. R/T train from NYC to Atlanta is a couple of hundred bucks.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
It is a beautiful building, unfortunately occupied by the worst president in US history. Stay safe and enjoy your trip. (If you like the history of the States, you should come to Boston! Lots to see here!)
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Would almost consider moving to NYC to vote for him. But I get to stay put and vote for my wonderful anti-Trump mayor, Michelle Wu.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Yay to all, but special shout out to Michelle Wu, my mayor!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Having been in tech from the days of mainframes, through client server, through PC's, through the web's advent, right up until AI, I have no idea how I missed your show. Retired now, so plenty of time to find it and watch. And, sure, I'll follow you.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
You and me both.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I seldom laugh out loud, but mad LOLing on this one.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks! That would be the first of three Paula novels to date. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
No thoughts on actors, but Roddy Doyle's Paula Spencer novels. Also think Paul Lynch's "Prophet Song" would make a good movie.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I live near the Boston Common. The other evening, I heard choppers overhead and my first thought was Trump takeover because he hates us and our mayor. Turns out that there's a 250th USMarine birthday celebration going on there with all sorts of equpiment. But my first thought was end times.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I live near the Boston Common. The other evening I heard all sorts of helicopters flying over my head. Turns out the Marines are doing a 250th anniversary whatever on the Common (choppers, tanks, etc.). My first thought: we're being occupied because Mayor Wu opposes Trump. It's coming...
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Just picture the child that John Roberts once was, dreaming that one day he would replace Roger Taney as the worst SCOTUS Chief Justice. This dream might just come true for little Johnny.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Ah, yes. Cracker Barrell, that well-known gathering place of woke, liberal elites, responding to pressure from their clientele to remove the old white guy and barrell from their logo. But keep the wildly attractive, hip, modern color scheme.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Fortunately, I live in a state (MA) that has a 100% Dem Congressional delegation WITHOUT gerrymandering.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social)
Preach!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed that the stats are the least of it, but this senseless bit is used to "prove" the effectiveness of their scheme. Some people will thoughlessly buy it, giving permission to go further. And do worse.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
And what, pray tell, does "declined murders by 35% in 9 days" mean?
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
That's my mayor!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm an American whose mother came through Ellis Island as a toddler. I vote. I volunteer. I march. I donate. I make protest signs. I write postcards. I'm old. Before I die, I'd like to see an America that provides "liberty and justice for all." Is this too much to ask?
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
My mayor! Making me proud!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Excellent. Now off to make another donation to the re-election campaign of Mayor Wu. May not like everything she does - some of those bike lanes? - but she's the real deal.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Just made a donation. Thsnk you for getting the word out about this disgraceful situation.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Just made a donation. What a travesty of decency and justice this country has become. Thank you for sharing.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, dear. Sorry that you feel this way, as it sounds so painful. I, too, heard the summer night sounds while walking by the Boston Public Garden just now. It was a lovely distraction from how miserable the world can be at times.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
That's for sure. I'd get tired just hearing about it!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
My late husband's aunt and uncle had a tobacco farm in Western Mass. Jim worked there summers in h.s. and college. In the late 60's they converted the farm to a golf course. Still hard work, but not as grueling as tobacco farming!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I vame up with Rolling Pebbles and U1, but Who Cares is the best one I've seen.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
The Rolling Pebbles. U1.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
We're already the world's laughingstock. Keep up the good work, Trump!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
A few years ago, I offered someone a seat on the subway. She looked at me like I had two heads. Only then did I realize she was probably a good 10 years younger. I'm 75, and the impulse remains. You can take the girl out of the Catholic school, but you can't take the Catholic school out of the girl.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Guess this is because Pol Pot is dead, thus ineligible.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Growing up, we had the white-guy Jesus in the hallway. Housewarming gift from a parish priest who played poker and golfed with my father. FYI, this picture is known colloguially as the "Chalice Head Jesus," because if you look at the side of his head in the right light, there's a chalice.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I always have to remind myself that Jonathan Turley and Jeffrey Toobin are different people. Maybe it's their having the same initials that always gives me pause, and I have to think for a moment which one is which.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Just made a donation to my old hometown ((Worcester Mass) radio station - they're down 18% but will likely survive. So also gave to a station in WV that might not make it. And West Virginia is sure a place that needs help more than Massachusetts does. Thank you for sharing this list.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't forget Charlemagne Tha God.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
And to add to the list, I just ate a few crackers and a couple of cherries WITH MY VERY HANDS. (Plus there's candy corn. I just don't happen to have any around.)
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you for filling me in. Somehow I missed this particular piece of racist idiocy.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent

Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social)
Anyone surprised? Anyone?
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Sigh is right. I've cut back on news and doomscrolling (other than this instance, obviously!) and am reading a lot more. At 75, my will to live is driven by seeing the end of Trump, MAGA, American fascism, right-wing SCOTUS. And see the principals and their enablers totally discredited and vilified.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
How about Emil Bove? He must have done something bar-able along the way...
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
As the daughter of a WWII CPO, I lol'd at this one.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
It is beautiful. The people are great. There are wonderful pubs and some excellent food. Music and literature are stellar. I've been there many, many times and would be happy to jump on a plane tonight to head over once again.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Ditto for the Irish.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
My sister's sweet boy loved my husband (and vice versa). The first time Jack visited my home after Jim died, Jack searched all over for him. He then lay down, rested his head on his front paws, and started to moan. Wish I had known to give him one of Jim's shirts. They grieve, all right...
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
This is insane. Sure, thou shalt not kill and a few others make practical sesnse. An honoring your parents is a nice to have. But tell me how the ones about deity worship apply to non-believers? What an abomination. I'd hate to have a non (right-wing) Christian kid in school in Texas.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I could still put on my Tom Lehrer album, sing along, and not miss a word. How daring it felt as a Catholic teenager to sing "The Vatican Rag." His songs were very much of the moment, yet timeless. A true genius.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
My second game was against NY. July 1961. Saw Mantle and Maris hit back-to-back homers. This was the season these guys were both chasing Babe Ruth's record. I can't remember which team won. Probably the Yankees. Still remember the crowd, so excited just to be there in the bleachers with my dad.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Lifetime fan here. My first time at Fenway - July 1960 - I saw Ted Williams homer. ("We" beat Cleveland 6-4. I was 10.) I still get a thrill every time I walk in. (And walk to. Urban ballparks are the best!) Glad you got to see the hallowed ground. And a pretty good series.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Plenty of us are, too.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
If he pardons Maxwell, he'll be saying that her heinous criminal behavior matters not. He did this, of course, with the J6 rioters, but I believe people will find trafficking young girls to be a far worse offense. So pardoning her may not work. Plus the victims can always testify and name names.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm screaming. You absolutely made my day. Thanks.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social)
Made my day!

Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
The Democrats have to start trumpeting this, and ask why the R's are so hellbent on wrecking parts of government that work especially well and support the common good.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Started a new Word doc. Copilot, univited, asked what I'm going to write about. MYOB, MF. So invasive! Hate is not a strong enough word.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I live in such a bubble. Trump didn't even get 20% in Boston, yet I walk down the street and think 'who am I passing who's pro-autocracy?'
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Unbelievable. She could have stopped it, forcing the Senate to come up with something better. Instead she went the 20 pieces of silver route. Hope she gets completely trashed in her book tour.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I am fortunate to live in a state where both my senators went all-in on opposition, especially E. Warren. If Dems don't have ads about all the amendments these clowns voted agaist... Also, Mark Warner said some R's told him they know the bill is shite. Name names already!
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but unlike Murkowski, they don't cloak themselves in faux integrity, concern, bipartisanship, etc. And she hopes the House will make the bill less draconian? Like that's gonna happen. Whatever misery she's feeling now - and I hope there's plenty of it - is well deserved.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
Incredible voice AND drop-dead gorgeous. Quite a combination! (Now I'm off to give her a listen.)
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember choking up when they played it at the Democratic convention when immigrant son Mike Dukakis was nominated. Dems should absolutely run on rationalizing immigration policy and stopping the terrorization of those who are caught up in our current evil and feckless modus operandi.
Maureen Rogers (@motorious.bsky.social)
Hope so!
