It was really enlightening. Also goes well with the latest Mr Plinkett video on how it's hard to discern what Star Wars even is, anymore.

Why not start with "abolish slavery?" Or with "end Jim Crow?" Or with "gay marriage rights?" Why not start with any other proposal that correctly identified a clear injustice, and clearly identified the correct solution, which were also very unpopular with people who dislike solutions to injustice?
I'm assuming avoiding the word 'people' (clunkily using the adjectives 'trans' or 'transgender' as a noun) is completely intentional?

Multiculturalism is (or at least should be) the complete opposite of 'melting pot' assimilation.
I think most of us talking about this right now do enjoy being a multicultural society though. Yeah, absolutely that's not true of all brits, especially our media and political class, but just look at the country protests going on right now.. I honestly believe the majority of us do.
I think it’s more that America is Very Special and the only place where cultures can mix and integrate; in other nations (though especially the UK because I want to say the food is bad) cultures can *never* integrate and will always be The Other [progressive option].
... regarding food, I always understood it as essentially being two things. E.g. a Mexican restaurant in USA is Mexican food...adapted for American pallets, and an Indian restaurant in the UK *is* Indian (frequently Bangladeshi) food adapted for British pallets, and so on.
Genuine question: is it more that the USA has a completely different idea of how race/ethnicity works than the UK? That's the only explanation I can think of as to why both sides seem to be at completely different wavelengths...
Yeah it's a very good point, but it's also almost doing that Twitter meme of making a new argument. The people saying 'British Indians etc. still count as British' etc. are mostly countering stupid American arguments about British food. 'How racist the UK is and in what way' is a separate discussion
I do get your point. But to be fair this whole thing was started by a white American guy who was questioning if Asian brits are British (aka me) and being very rude.
Even the stereotypical 'brown' British food like steak and ale pie or whatever is delicious if made properly.
The “British person” in this instance was me; I do find it deeply amusing that, as well as being extremely racist about British Indians and their role in British food culture, this America has managed to name the curry that was most famously created in Britain
This is why the ‘British food is bland’ trope is racist too. It ignores all the amazing fusion food in the UK because apparently that’s not ‘British’.

Worth remembering that Terence Stamp was the son of a ship's stoker. Stamp desperately wanted to act, after falling in love with movies as a kid, and it was a scholarship to Drama School that allowed him to walk that path. Every time arts cuts are made, they rob us of more Terence Stamps.

yah you’re totally right. all gender is performance regardless of whether you’re cis or trans. people also often tend to get dysphoria from being forced to perform a gender other than their own, so it’s especially noticeable & acute in trans folx since there is more obvious dissonance.
...now that I think about it I'm guessing you can get cis people who don't get enough of certain hormones and need similar healthcare to trans people.
I genuinely wonder if the amount of people (trans or cis) who feel 'off' in some way due to our bodies producing too much (or not enough) of something is probably a lot higher than we'd like to think. I guess anxiety and/or depression is caused by that...

Yeah it's on my wishlist, but my PS5 backlog is so high ATM. From what I gather it'll be a solid 7/10. A horror remake I *need* is a Code Veronica remake. It's the only mainline RE title I haven't played in any form, yet.

24. Friendship Absolutely deranged film. I love Tim Robinson and this film felt like one long "I Think You Should Leave" skit in the best way possible. I'm sure there's some arguments to be made regarding male loneliness and it's depiction in this film but I was too busy laughing my ass off.

My party horror is if I talk to someone for less than 5 minutes I worry I've been rude, and if I talk to someone for more than 5 minutes I worry I'm boring them to tears and needlessly try and end the conversation. I guess I shouldn't say this, but for me being mildly drunk really helps.
