You can’t get them on economy cars anymore. You pay a $10-20k premium for them on a top tier, low volume model of the economy car.

Go anywhere in Europe (or most of the rest of the world) and try to get a rental car. The first question I got asked in Iceland was “can you drive standard?”

I’m a millennial, and I’ve been driving a manual for 22 years. I taught my friends, 2 past girlfriends and my wife to drive a manual. My oldest sister drove a manual, and her husband drove a manual.

2738 kWh last month, my bill was $568. This is a 4 bedroom house though, and your bill feels rather outrageous.

I gravitate towards Arch based distros, but they aren’t for everyone. Ubuntu is a default for many, but I don’t like their data collection (although you can disable it). Linux Mint is a great all around distro for starters and long-term users alike. Pop!_OS is another good one. Find what you like.

My 2025 hobby is helping my pals de-centre tech from their lives. Acquire CDs, records, DVDs, paper books, reference books, magazines, dictionaries, etc. Go to the library! Going analog is a small way to stop relying on tech bro monsters & helps preserve knowledge they're literally deleting.

How is this breaking news? We all watched this happen repeatedly in real-time.

I used Wunderlist back in my sysadmin days to organize my work, before we had any system of record / prioritization. I might give this a shot to organize myself even as a tech leader.

This place is somehow filled with all of the content I tried to escape in leaving X, and none of the good content I was looking for. Doesn’t anybody have any hobbies outside of politics and hatred?

The greatest day of my life was the day I realized I can go buy a cake whenever I want, and nobody can stop me. Strike that… the greatest day of my life was when I got married. But the cake thing is a very close second.

An overly complicated tech stack can create more problems than it solves. I've seen this, and it drives the architecture of my homelab. I see many tech execs / senior leaders consistently make decisions to adopt new and shiny for the sake of being "fast," in turn delaying execution.
mrbrobot.bsky.social (@mrbrobot.bsky.social)
What balance do you strike in your homelab between self-hosting and SaaS solutions? Do you use cloud providers, or your own hardware? Would you rather leverage GitHub and other services to orchestrate your build / deploy / release, or do you like to own all of your data internally?
mrbrobot.bsky.social (@mrbrobot.bsky.social)
I’m a huge fan of lightweight, basic looking editors… but I’m not hardcore enough to just use Vim. Lite-XL seems to fit the bill, but I’m open to suggestions. I’ve also used (Pantheon) Code, and that one’s not bad either.

Just curious - what's stopping you? Like, what are the hard dependencies you have? I switched to #manjaro full-time on my Desktop PC back in April of 2023 for gaming, and I've not looked back. I still supplement with an M1 Pro Mac for video editing and audio work.
mrbrobot.bsky.social (@mrbrobot.bsky.social)
I'm not sure if I should be impressed with how much my Raspberry Pi 5 can handle, or if I've really just massively overspent on the rest of my homelab gear that it's rapidly replacing.
