I was never a participant in any kind of big LAN party but have incredibly fond memories of hot-seating some games in the early 90s and my best friend had two PCs he would LAN together and we would play hours of Doom and then later Outlaws and Medal of Honor/COD. Life in early 2000s ended that.

Horror and monster movies have always been popular, moreso I suppose as drive-in viewing than in theatre. I think the first big horror event I remember personally was all the furor over The Excorcist when it came out in 1973--the graphic scenes, the rating, should kids see it, etc.
