It's surprising! There was that line in the Tetris movie where the Henk Rogers character (magically) deduces that Super Mario Land was written in C, and I was like "pfft, no way." But apparently it was! And @dylancuthbert.bsky.social wrote some of Star Fox in C as well I think, or some of its tools.

So they got this wrong in Art and Artifacts too, said it was for the 90's re-release, but we found the 1st (& only?) instance we know of in an official Nintendo 1987 wall calendar which means it was made in '86. Only true early official art of him I know of. I'm guessing it might be by Minoru Maeda

I'm unsure if I'll paint these! The examples on the back of the box makes them look really appealing painted, so I've definitely considered it... but it's a huge time investment so I'm just not sure. If you're on the fence about painting yours, you could paint 3D prints of my scans instead!

Puyolin had an initial limited run in March 1997 at the 3rd All Japan Puyo Masters Tournament, several months before it came out anywhere else. Soon after, Compile issued a recall on these units due to a bug in the game. Now I'm hunting for a Puyolin that DOESN'T say "REV: 1" on its circuit board.

This tape was an absolute nightmare, so many damaged and shaky segments. Fortunately as a point of sale tape it contained the same video looped like 8 times, so I was able cut up all the versions and stitch together something that plays mostly fine. Gaze upon this image and share my suffering.

I always felt that these books would be particularly great ways to adapt the Myst universe into a streaming miniseries. I remember there being some sci fi miniseries rumblings some decades ago that seemed to evaporate. Perhaps now would be a good time to shop the concept around again!
