Nah i dont think we are on thr border of ffp. I think we were this summer but now the gerrard loss has dropped off the books we should be pretty comfortable going forward.

I certainly saw some more intent tonight but its hard when thr players are lacking confidence. We should have had two pens tonight. We created chances, we looked more comfortable and brentford are never an easy game away. Sunderland will be more of a barometer for where we are imo.
If we finish out if europe then we have no uefa rules to meet. We are comfortable with FFP and already below the 85% PL SCR rules.

Yeah i think its the system as much as anything though. Needs to change it. Hasnt properly worked since 23/24 and now every team knows exactly how to set up to nullify it.

Dougie and diaby regularly got 90 minutes. Emery now just keeps playing mcginn and rogers then gives the rest 10/15 minutes off the bench once the opposition are fully settled into a low block to protect their 1 goal lead or a clean sheet.
We had a bench full of attacking players that emery had signed to replace them.

All fair in isolation. Its 4 games without a win, without a goal and with no real bite at all that is concerning. This is scarily reminiscent of Smiths and Gerrards final seasons for me. Players look utterly clueless when they get the ball.
Sunderland is absolutely a must win now. Credit in the bank or not (credit that was used up last season for me) 2 pts from the opening 5 would be completely unacceptable.
Been mismanaged imo. Not smart to play him every minute of every game regardless of performance.

He has always been a busy player he just lacks the quality at this level sadly.
Thing is Matt, we can keep it tight and still have at least a bit of pace up front to cause problems on thr break but we seem to have no interest in attacking at pace at all. All very slow and laboured.

Its not even necessarily that his own signings arent as good. Its that he isnt playing them because he has gone into ultra conservative mode. Hes finished.

Yeah possibly. It just seems like such an obvious weak point in the team and given what weve spent on the various positions and players over the 3 yrs under emery, its a real mystery to me that he hasnt felt the need to upgrade properly.
For me, a lot of our difficulty just comes from the lack of balance in the back 4 which, again, hasnt really been addressed this window. The hope has to be that Lindelof allows Konsa to play RB and Mings to cover Maatsen without losing too much in terms of build up from CB maybe?
Can we do this with such an intentionally slow build up though?

When he signed i think that was the big question, where does he fit. He is not a winger. He is not the type of 10 emery now wants. He would be a great second striker in the 4222 that we played when emery first came but now we are more of a 4231 with a traditional 10 so ST is best fit now.
Look, if we can afford that as you say and it still allows us to spend on transfers and not have to sell to buy then fine, but the plauers on huge wages NEED to deliver way more than plauers like Onana and Malen have so far. We cant have 150k players warming the bench given our revenue.

I think he is pretty much thought of as bad news by everyone who isnt a villa fan (until now) he also had a poor season last season performance wise in the PL especially, never been great with his feet and makes rash decisions.

With SCR yes but thats not really whats hampering us. Its the additional set of rules UEFA put on just us and Chelsea that says we can only make a 5m loss this summer and no loss next summer on transfers thats fucked us as much as anything. We will be fine for SCR next year and still need to sell

I said it should never have been allowed to get to this point as in where we have zero leverage in any situation because we breached SCR. dont see brentford/NUFC or any of the other clubs that have lost mercenaries scrambling around ebcasue they had the ability to bring in a replacement beforehand.
I dont thinknhe will play for us again after this. Will sadly go on a loan or a lowball fee that leaves us in the lurch. Wither tjat or he stays and the dressing room is ruined.
Its not even about fees spent its the wages we have given to players as well. The wagebill is ridiculous for a club of our revenue. But also big signings and big wages have to work and they havent too often under emery.
