it's certainly why the Constitution doesn't countenance a standing army. Standing armies were certainly *known* at the time.
genuinely, the most straightforward reading of that isn't an individual right to bear arms or undertake insurrection, but of States to deploy armed forces in defensive actions against aggressors whether internal or external. Arguably, this is what the founders had in mind.

Good: Pritzker calling BS, unambiguously and forcefully, on Trump’s planned invasion of Chicago, correctly identifying it as blatant rights violations based on a pretext. Bad: How much it stands out to see a leading politician do that, rather than go along with the BS, treating the pretext as real.
I do think that this is largely a proxy for costs in general. There was not some major tax increase in 2020, people are just reacting to inflation! There's a lesson here... lowering people's costs is a necessary prerequisite to raising taxes! Can I interest you in a little YIMBY-ism?
