Bear Gulch Fire near Lake Cushman, WA. Photo from 45 miles away in Steilacoom, WA. The fire is now at 16,000 acres, burning in the wet Olympic Mountains which don't normally burn in large, raging, extremely hot fires. US Forest Service no longer has enough resources to fight fires.

Your allegory is understood. My mother with Alz aged rapidly in memory care. She looked in the mirror and truly did not recognize herself, 'Who's that?' People don't understand how bad Trump's dementia has gotten. He is running on old skills from memory, while staff runs the show.

It is amazing how long term memories can hold the daily status quo. But get Trump into a news conference, even a friendly interview, and the wheels come off. People who have not had an AD parent don't understand how far he has progressed. Trump is where my mother was 10 months before memory care.
The telltale signs of dementia- perhaps AD- are there. It may be hard for the uninitiated to understand how far along he is. Inability to grasp new concepts; declining simple math, vocabulary, recognition of known people; paranoia; physical decline of leaning, stumbles, wavering walk.
I watched my mother decline into Alzheimer's Disease. She covered for herself very well, until she couldn't. She could continue in her daily routines with rote memories, with help from her husband, until things had progressed too far. I watch Trump and see the same mental decline. 1/4

Pushing housing into the Urban-Forest interface is a recipe for disastrous fires, with little access for evacuation or emergency vehicles. People want to put houses in the forest, then want the government to save them from fire. 2/3
