Trump isn't the worst president in U.S. history because he's mean or "ruthless." He's the worst because he's the dumbest. He's the least intelligent, least qualified person to ever occupy the oval office. The bullying and false bravado is to cover up for the stupidity.

Nerzog (@nerzog.bsky.social) reply parent
It's painful to watch. What Schumer is arguing is that, once the government shuts down, Trump and Elmo can decide who is and isn't "essential," and close the agencies at will, and nobody can stop them. Maybe the symbolism of making a stand is all we have left. I don't know.
Nerzog (@nerzog.bsky.social) reply parent
I see your point, but he may not be wrong in this case. If the government shuts down, who will reopen it? On the other hand, this is the only leverage Dems have. It's a no-win situation.
Nerzog (@nerzog.bsky.social) reply parent
It feels like this is happening quickly and easily, but the oligarchs have been setting this up for decades. In my mind, the fatal blow was Citizens United, but the system has taken a sequence of serious hits over the past 40 years. It's now collapsing like a house eaten by termites.
