Oh wow, that definitely needs to change and quickly. My understanding is that in many municipalities, changing an assessment scheme occurs at a glacial pace, if it happens at all. It’s terrible. More agility should be built into the system to account for shifting markets.

Yes! I met someone recently who told me they thought the vaccine caused issues for them. When I told them I believed them, they opened up in a way I did not expect. They didn’t hate the vaccine and weren’t anti-vax. They just wanted to be directed to helpful info. /1

I had a convo with another local friend of mine about how we constantly see the platforming of wealthy folks who oppose Mamdani. But hardly those in favor and their reasons for being in favor. It’s intentional IMO.
I think for a lot of folks it’s actually a trauma response. A guy had something to say about me wearing a mask and I actually started up a convo with him about it. He admitted that seeing masks made him upset because it made him think of the lockdown period and that was distressing for him.

Per an investigative report by The City (the publication), as of early 2024, there were 26K empty apartments in NYC. If all of those were to come onto the market, yes, it would make a big difference in the immediate term as the vacancy rate would spike. But it’s not the long term solution. /1

I certainly know folks who have experienced negative consequences. It’s tough to demonstrate that they’re directly the cause of them masking (for example, not getting interview callbacks) unless someone explicitly said the mask was an issue. But sometimes they have been told the mask was the issue.
I assume you mean negative consequences? I still mask in public (really anywhere indoors that is outside of my home). But aside from not attending a lot of indoor and crowded outdoor social events and thus missing out on connections, I haven’t experienced a lot of bad because of it. However, /1

As a former attorney, it’s been wild to fully see how “vibes” based a lot of it is. Just no real enforcement mechanisms for any of the guardrails most needed to actually protect people. Republicans knew that and built up their power over the years.

I agree AI can be useful here. But I’d be curious to know what the prompt used was. It has a habit of trying to tell the user what it wants to hear. I personally think it’s biggest uses could be in helping find potential treatments and suggesting diagnoses that might otherwise be missed.
