The exquisitely languorous Stephen Tennant (1906-1987) as 'Prince Charming' by Cecil Beaton, 1927. Tennant in the spirit of decadence exhausted, retired to his bed for the last 20 years of his life. Most of us return to dust but some go as incense into the starry goodnight.

Two images of old style Venetian funeral gondolas, which have a somber beauty. Sadly, the dead are no longer ferried to their final resting place in such a decorous manner but are hurried along in an unattractive utilitarian blue barge.

True but the characters in the picture are wearing drape coats and brothel creepers but there are similarities altho Zoot trousers were baggy & Ted's wore drainpipes.

Going out in style: 'Duel' Ilya Repin, 1899. The Duelists are beautifully attired & their posture so elegant it belies the drama. If someone told you it was an illustration from a gentleman's fashion magazine of the time, there would be no reason to disbelieve them.

Took this picture today of a mosaic of Bacchus, a hidden treasure of the neighborhood that I've been aware of for the last 30 years. It's tucked away on a stairwell outside a mysterious & very old house. Whoever implemented the mosaic must have been quite a bon viveur. I'd love to know who it was.

Much as I ♥️ old images of Hollywood pictures of a grittier U.K in the 1960's such as this one of Rush Tushingham are more emotive. She grew up in Liverpool as I did, witnessing bomb damaged buildings & slum clearance; a million miles away from psychedelic paradise despite the Beatles.
