99% of talking animal movies are bad. Truly some dogshit cinema out there. Its the ultimate act of hubris for anyone directing or writing to think they can crack it and you need the mandate of heaven to pull it off
Its really stupid how good this movie is because pretty much every element should be working against it but it does work because everyone's ambitions and motives work in tandem with each other and even though theres a fundamental disconnect with our protagonists, we buy the rat human mecha for that

like the effort extended here is crazy. none of these guys have a fight scene, there was no reason to design a entire crew for this or to include that butch baddy in the bg
also like you can tell some of the people on the crew have been working with training weights on their 3d productions because the amount of unique assets that show up for like a second is honestly kind of crazy
i have no problem with indie animation directors taking a crack at showrunning but the basic storytelling skills between this and everything else is fucking night and day lol
the only way that pilot could have anything interesting happen is if the plan fails in the end and like, honestly the whole caste system doesnt really feel that well-thought out... idk. here it least presents a clearer idea of where our characters are at, how jobs work, etc
if the plot had succeeded in gaslight district, the stakes would remain the same anyway. it revolves around the idea that humans and angels share blood color, which is inexplicably black, but if they smash it, it doesnt suddenly change the fact that mel is human and can still be found out to be one?
i have far less gripes with this than most of glitch's other pilots which look pretty but either lack substance or involve far too complicated set ups to get the plot going. ive talked about the digital circus before but gaslight district is almost as bad in this aspect?
i feel like it might have been better to just start the pilot at the crane scene but im kind of already assuming that since they had to start a 2d production house for this already, theres already more episodes in production
i think we're gonna get context on some of the funland characters later from the looks of it, i think it's just sort of explaining how things got so bad in a way? but yeah i don't really know if guinevere is meant to be a real person or not based off the hair scene or what the "surface" means
knights of guinevere is the best pilots glitch has put out there although i will say some of the table-setting i feel was done kind of weirdly. in terms of who we follow its fine although for the setting i think it lacks some context still, incredibly cool setting, really great character designs
