My last class of the day, of the week was with some lovely first graders who cuddled up on the big rug with me with the books they had just checked out. Four kids in the corner sharing bug books and others handing me their books to read to them. Everybody happy, mellow. ❤️

The night before the first day of school. Favorite sheet mask on and finishing my last summer fun book. If you liked Hitchcock’s Suspicion, the book is even better. If you like a focus on the psychology rather than the crime like a Highsmith or Simenon, this is for you.
My kids, now adults, have grown up helping at my schools. Setting up classroom spaces, bringing the plants back in after a summer in our house, lawn work… Basically anything that needed to be done. Kudos and thanks to all the families of educators who quietly help make our system work for kids!
Sadly true. We hosted the annual giveaway of backpacks and supplies for our ward today at my school. Usually crazy crowded. Strangely quiet. And not a Spanish speaking family to be seen.

I’m running out of summer so I’ve escaped to the dark, cool basement to watch Phineas and Ferb and pretend the work isn’t coming for me.
I weeded huge stacks from my shelves this summer. Last month I put some on Etsy and took the $160 and spent it on books for my school library. Thrilled with those purchases, I decided to do it again. So in case you need more books… nonsuchbook.etsy.com
And a mural begins to take shape in my library… It’s the best of adventures before every school year, recreating the library space to try and wow the kids, give them a warm and happy place to read and rest in.

Mermaid Books in Williamsburg, Virginia was a favorite place to hunt for used books. Lost in the pandemic. Was happy to see that a new shop has taken over the long empty space. Not quite as quirky but every bit as charming.

You’re in a used bookstore and you see something about or adjacent to something you are moderately interested in. But you have never seen this book before and the novelty of this forces your book greedy self to buy it. Someone tell me I’ve made a worthwhile choice?
