Apparently it was a nightmare session. Berman went back into the studio with Pavement, but again stormed out. Pavement used the free studio time to record an EP!
I spend way too much time wondering if any of the original tapes of Silver Jews' Natural Bridge album featuring The Scud Mountain Boys as the backing band to David Berman still exist or if indeed they were all destroyed by Berman himself.

This appears to be the Sunbeam Records reissue. It has been described almost universally as 'flat' sounding. I might have to investigate some of these bootlegs people have discussed.

Apparently, the original master tapes were lost and have only recently been found again. Sunbeam are patchy at best with their sound quality, and this must've been reissued from an alternative source. Sonic Boom is working on the boxset production, so I'll just have to wait.

Wow! What a phenomenal album. Produced by Bernie Taupin and featuring string arrangements by Robert Kirby, it's a unique sounding record with incredibly cinematic lyrics. This copy came with the press release which I'll add in the replies.
