That said, since different games have different focuses, are you doing anything to help make that clear in scores? My thinking is that final scores often end up being a reflection of the scorers personal taste. People who prefer story, action, or crafting will all have different preferences.
This sounds awesome! Sentiments about the problems in open world games are prevalent, but reactions to that in design are really hit or miss. Having a real system to grade these things might actually help.

More like guides on how best to find reliable resources and info when searching online. It’s not something I can really explain myself, but I’m pretty sure people have made content or something to help others with this.
I think it bothers me most as someone who values ranges of experience on an intellectual level. Like, I enjoy learning about the distinctions and the variance within a particular group. It’s cool to see people associating with a topic in dynamic ways.
Which makes it even worse when your own tastes or feelings align with that group, because you don’t want to be part of their circle. At the same time, you don’t want to be treated as lesser or indirectly insulted for the ways in which you’re similar to them.
Part of this I blame on the centrist sort of thinking that less enthusiastic members of a community can have — that the more “extreme” people are problematic or off-putting in some way. They just have to start shit over people being “too different”.
You don’t want to try defending yourself though, because if it’s really a joke then people get upset that you’re ruining it. You begin to feel like you’re more of a guest amongst people you mostly relate to. Enjoy what you can, ignore what you can’t, and don’t cause a fuss.
But the idea that people are wrong or misguided for not enjoying or wanting the same things to the same degree bothers me. It puts you in a very uncomfortable position when the sentiment being mocked is one you relate to.
The nature of the jokes tend towards implying that those who aren’t on the same level are in some way ignorant, scared, or misled. And I get it, I can see how people end up making these jokes or actually holding these positions.
But then you also will see comments and jokes made at the expense of people who aren’t all-in. And when you don’t fully relate, it gets harder and harder to tell when it’s actually a joke, and when you’re being insulted.
Online communities can be lonely places at times due to a high level of polarization. I think part of it comes from the communities being treated poorly by “normies”, leading those who are most enthusiastic about the community to lean into it harder. Which is pretty reasonable.
