This isn’t a common topic for me, but I am going through a rough time with some pretty serious medical issues. I am starting to see that our insurance system doesn’t just “delay, deny, defend”… they actively impact HOW medical professionals practice. Expertise stifled for profit. #underinsured
Elon a few weeks ago: “Empathy is a weakness of western civilization.” Elon in the F.O. Stage: “Why does the left hate me? I thought Democrats were the party of empathy.”
How many of the people screaming about “protecting women’s sports” have ever been to a women’s sports event beyond one their daughter played in? How many could name 3 WNBA teams? 1 pro fast pitch softball team? It’s just another spectacle to hang their bigotry on. Period.

Something that gives me some grounding is the fact that Trump won by a smaller margin this time than in 2016. Rather than focusing on his emboldened supporters, remember that even a few of them changing course wins in the long run.

All of the anti-DEI moves are a smokescreen. Trump is trying to take complete power, to dismantle and privatize the government for the benefit of his cronies. DEI is bread and circus for his supporters, so they don’t see his motives.

An estimated 75% (!!) of farm laborers in Bakersfield, CA didn’t come to work yesterday out of fear of ICE raids. That surely is mirrored elsewhere. I am interested to learn how the empty store shelves will be Biden’s fault.

My partner is dyslexic, and has struggled with reading her whole life. She was led to believe she was less-than those who read voraciously, when the act of doing so was far more difficult for her. Thanks to audio books, she’s taken in dozens of books this year. That’s a win. Equity.

It’s an intentional misuse of statistics to propose that the mean is generalized for all teachers. Also… this doesn’t account for experience. The median NEW teacher (1-5 years) salary in OH is about 44k annually. Big gap. 5/x
For example, here in OH, the median teacher pay is about 52k annually. That’s a big gap from the national *average* citations (there are so many) that suggest 70k or more. 4/x
We should do two things to have an honest conversation here. First, we should use median, and not mean. This will show a truer picture of the middle. Second, we should look only at the state level. 3/x
Teacher pay is often cited as a national average. This is not accidentally misleading, but rather, intentionally dishonest. Average (or mean) mashes up salaries of CA, NY, and MA - the highest salaries - with places like MS, which is very low. 2/x
