The key takeaway is Netflix’s bragged about algorithm that spies on every click you make gives them more data about audiences than ever existed in cinema history. But it has not led to their biggest hits. K-pop DH was made fully separate from Netflix & has crushed their $320 million Electric State.

Right now there’s a lot of articles about how 2025 US total box office so far proves movies are in decline. It’s mostly bullshit. The real story of 2025 is original movies audiences want to see are doing individually far better than anyone expected, and studios seem to not know, or what people want…

(To explain: I was working in press and media communications when the Labour Party had leaders you could actually call left-wing, and one frustration I had was that they never built enough of a presence in international media. That allowed the English media to distort their messaging far too much.)
Musa Okwonga (@okwonga.bsky.social) reply parent
The Green Party, positioned consistently and with high visibility as one leader of an international coalition of progressive parties, could be a lightning rod for hope. If that sounds implausible, well: that's exactly what Reform is doing for their camp. No reason why Greens can't do the same.
Musa Okwonga (@okwonga.bsky.social) reply parent
The UK's Green Party has much more leverage than many people realise - the political positions of its leader set it apart. It can shape and shift narrative in surprising ways. It can also embolden those Labour MPs who are horrified by the government's direction to agitate for change.
Musa Okwonga (@okwonga.bsky.social)
Something important I think: for the Green Party to (continue to) build its profile in international media by getting coverage and op-eds in European and American outlets. I say this because those pieces of press can help to shape discourse back in the UK. It also stops them from being marginalised.
