Looking at some of these replies, I think the answer is no. "They'll never do that" is how we go there, and this is already framing the debate in terms of womens' health and safety and what reasonable person would be against that.

Probably true, but also I think the electorate gets the time for calibrated responses and half-measures is past. The only road to some sort of return to normalcy is to keep kicking the Nazis in the teeth until they slither back under their rock. No quarter.

Well, the former doesn't mean the latter. I think the Rs are going into this feeling unstoppable. The email circulating about bipartisanship only plays into that. At some point Ds need to stop protecting Rs from the consequences of their actions. Rs count on that not happening.

Agree. There were some conversations we needed to have as a country as we exited the pandemic, even if they were likely to be unpleasant, and we did not. I get why, but it was not only a missed opportunity but emboldened some folks to try to re-write history and gave us RFK Jr.

There's a not small number of Dem pols that seem to believe in letting MAGA self-destruct and then being there to pick up the pieces. 1st, that badly mis-reads the current situation. 2nd, Dem voters will remember who was there fighting the whole time vs who showed up after the work was done.
