Two of my kids fell in love with the show at a BIT too early an age largely because of how Joel spoke to the viewers so much. Kids like to be respected and included, and the show almost always does both with its viewers.
Another point that doesn't often get mentioned is how META the show is. There IS no fourth wall because the fourth wall is Cambot. From the very beginning, you're made to feel like they're talking TO YOU and the other randos out there. Right from Joel's first intro, you're part of the SOL, too.

It's the total package, aye, which really makes it stand out beautifully as a prime example of a hosted movie show.

And what makes this show so good isn't *just* the riffs, it's the skits and cast. It's a show within a showception.
It really does. :) When it comes to the question of the show's finest hour (and a half), there's so much to choose from, and it really feels like an embarrassment of riches when those amazing options make the question impossible!
Love love love it from that uneasy opening to the bombastic go-for-broke ending and all points in between. There are different cuts of it, but my fave? The Extended Mall Hours cut on YouTube that combines all known footage from the theatrical, extended, and European cuts for one *great big cut!*
Romero never misses. Night of the Living Dead is one of my four favorite films, Day is a claustrophobic wonder, Land is a romp and a half, Diary is an innovative gem, and Survival gets the job done, but Dawn of the Dead? That's just sheer, complete, absolute, total fun. RIDICULOUSLY SO. /1

That's tricky. From an objective standpoint, I can't speak to it being the "best" or "funniest" episode, but I will say that Manos is the best known and perhaps the most important episode in the MST3K canon.

Good Superman stories are almost never about who wins the fights. They're about how to solve the problems. Superman can do massive, mighty things. The story is about his figuring out what massive, mighty things he should do. About understanding, not about overpowering.
Likewise here, aye. His was a nifty presence, and it sucks to not have that voice resonate through new works. If there's any silver lining, it's to be found in the terrific work he's left behind in his voluminous filmography.

*Loved* him as Malachi in Longmire, and I dug his turn in Die Hard 3. Of course, Graham Greene has his place in MSTory for having appeared in Atlantic Rim in MST3K Season 12. If you saw him in something - and he appeared in PLENTY - you knew you were getting something solid. May he rest in peace.
