A good clarification! The total days of symptoms don’t matter, it’s time from 1st symptoms to the viral load being high enough to be detected. That’s the 3-6 window. Becoming asymptomatic (no longer outwardly showing symptoms, not feeling sick), doesn’t mean you aren’t still infectious to others.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
The days of symptoms don’t really matter, it’s the time from symptoms start to the viral load being high enough to be detected. The symptoms can, but don’t have to go along with that increase in viral load.

Just reminding everyone to retest in a couple of days after your sickness symptoms starts. On Covid rapid tests, it take 3-6 days after symptoms have started to get that first positive test on average. This has been true for the past few years.

The cognitive dissonance is out of this world. Denial of person being sick at work. The fallback to downplaying that they are sick at work (just allergies lie). The admission of a sickness going around the office (but somehow all of them have just allergies). All while broadcasting on Covid
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social)
Just watched a news broadcast on Covid & RFK, and one anchor is hacking up a lung, clearly sick. Then the other anchor is like yeah whatever you have is running through the office (where they obviously blame allergies). Irony at its peak. Most likely having a covid infection while talking on it.

Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
Definitely something to discuss with your doctor. Both types show good efficacy. People I follow and talk with in the autoimmune community, they have not had the flare ups with Novavax that they have had with Pfizer or Moderna. So that part is a little hearsay at this point - common enough tho
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
I would say not so much anymore, as the people wearing the masks regularly largely already know this type of info
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
Additionally, you can get infected through your eyes and by consuming Covid orally. Glasses help for that, but also consciously reducing face touching, and washing your hands before rubbing your eyes. Don’t share (eat from same plate or share same glass) food, drink with others. Even alcohol.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social)
I’ve seen a lot of, “I wore my mask but still got sick”. 1) use N95 > KN95 > KF94 > Cloth mask. 2) Ensure no gaps - no airflow on deep exhales along your face. 3) N95 masks exposed to covid-19 have infectious material on surface for ~1hr. Clothing/skin longer periods. Shower & change clothing.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
Novavax’s data has been lackluster imo and they perform a totally separate type of analysis to what is done in the mRNA platforms. It’s basically comparing apples to oranges, which makes them difficult to truly evaluate against one another.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
I personally prefer the mRNA as I think it provides multiple levels of immune reaction to raw and final spike protein components. It’s more that the autoimmune community and those with allergies really need the option.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social) reply parent
Basically 3 things in the valid sense from talking with people. The polyethylene glycol component isn’t in Novavax, so those with that allergy won’t have it triggered. It doesn’t spur as strong a reaction for those with MCAS or Lupus type issues. Perceived side effects are lower than mRNA.
Patrickthebiosteamist (@patbiosteamist.bsky.social)
The American Academy of Pediatrics has BARELY deviated from the CDC guidance. ALL children should be recommended to receive an updated Covid-19 vaccination in September. Only recommending it for 6mos-2yr & high risk over 2yr is not enough. It’s a disservice to not say all should get it.
Sara Luterman (@slooterman.bsky.social) reposted
COVID vaccines reduce transmission and I wish people would stop slamming them because they don’t stop it entirely. Reducing transmission is good! They don’t just protect the person who gets the vaccine!
