Those images were mock-ups on Melbourne Draw, one version of the ad actually had Melbourne's menu on one of the images! :o)

The only thing I can say about Scooby is that Elite still owe us £250 for the gig as they decided to nobble us when it came to final payment at the end. I believe the phrase hurled at the 17-year-old me was; "ha!, so sue me!". I got my sweet revenge 16 years later, but that's another story!

I wish I had the time my friend (any time), first chance I've had to hit a computer all week outside of filling in forms :o( It's a proper classic game - beautiful design.

Yeah midpoint was the way I went on the 8 bits, but used divides on 16 bits. Potentially Elite's method with 8 bit logs for divides is faster in most cases over midpoint, but I wasn't smart enough to realise in '85!

Oh what! He always came across as a lovely fella - someone that interpreted and invoked the law in a "human" way. Always the nice guys go first.

Bresenham's circle algorithm blew my mind more than his line draw back in the day (which itself was a stroke of genius) - such wonderful thinking.

Paul "Paulie" Hughes (@pauliehughes.bsky.social) reply parent
It sort of depends on the platform (like in th'olden days on Z80/6502 I used to divide and conquer until the endpoint touched the clip window). For parametrics I used Cohen Sutherland for the longest time on 68K and early x86 I switched to Liang-Barsky for a while as it's marginally more efficient.
Paul "Paulie" Hughes (@pauliehughes.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah I watched it, really enjoyed it. Scott has spoken to me many times over the years about doing one with him - just that my corporate masters always wanted oversight which was frankly ridiculous (I missed doing documentaries ‘cos of that). Now I’m free from those chains I’d be happy to do it.

40 years ago I teamed up with Peter Clarke to create music and sound drivers for the C64. He composed "Ocean Dries Up" or Ocean Loader 3 as it is now known, along with numerous SID classics like Bubble Bobble, Head over Heels, Double Take and Scooby Doo. Today Peter left us - RIP my friend, RIP 😢
