I disagree. The trains won’t go any faster, but the line/infrastructure is being built in a way that faster trains, and double decker trains, might run one at and it won’t cost much to update the line to do that. It’s a VERY rare example of the Uk thinking ahead and good future proofing!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Too much cake stuffed in your panniers from the shop opposite obviously
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
The cargo ones start at around that here.
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Mostly SWB! And I guess the chicken tax has deprived you of the cargo? I see quite a few even in fleets/low spec with steel wheels and grey bumpers. I priced one up and the monthly running costs were £200-300 less than my diesel Ford transit custom (another good van you don’t get!)
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Flopped? I’m seeing loads of ID Buzz, both passenger and cargo versions, here on the UK. Ditto the 500.
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
That last one, what if it’s Farage?
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Dunno, it’s almost up there with Millibands sandwich eating… 🙄
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
“…your vote belongs to Labour. All left of centre votes belong to Labour and the Greens and Lib Dems are stealing them…” etc etc Zak being a strong candidate is a relief for the Lib Dem social media team, they probably see 90% less traffic etc from them now 😉🤣
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
STANFORD?
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Fuck knows. I think the UK and the US are taking it in turns to be the most super dumb country. Our turn again now (and we’re already well into hold my beer/watch this territory…)
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
That sounds like a right arse ache, and it’s not like that part of the world is short of proper mountain biking terrain if you wanted to go do that, it even has proper mountains!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s crap but living close by I can see the results. And SCC scrapped the bus lane last year 🙁 Meanwhile my appointment at the eye hospital gave me all the options and a link to a narrated video of the accessible route to the dept I was going to!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
People fundamentally misunderstand tax, thinking it’s about raising revenue, when really it’s to modify behaviour and offset any negatives caused by the action being taxed (See also cars and VED)
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Woah that’s nearly one a week (not including summer or Christmas holidays) 🤦♂️
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m well aware of them and how they work 😉 And yes you can make woks etc work on induction, but they can give different results
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
This is outside my sphere of knowledge, but what I do know is while induction hobs are superior overall and in most circumstances are better, there are a couple of (more niche) uses/cooking styles where gas gives better results, so I’m prepared to believe there can be industries where H is better
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Won’t it be a bit smelly? 🤣
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
The hydrogen hob is the MiniDisc player, induction is the mp3 player. Gas ovens are already pretty obsolete, gas hobs are on their way out. I can’t see how hydrogen is going to genuinely scale/become viable when there are already better alternatives out there. Maybe if you don’t have mains leccy?

Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
The worse one I got was from the co-op… “how was your shipping trip..” but all the question were like “do you think we support such and such rights enough?” “Do you think our eco credentials are ok?” All very noble but they could do with knowing their c/out queues and availability were terrible….
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Sinclairs Oyster bar, Manchester, here it was in the 70s being raised up on stilts while the market square shopping precinct was built around it. Then around about 2000 it was dismantled and moved a few hundred metres and rebuilt next to the cathedral.
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve not watched it yet. It’s the first time I’ve not watched a recent Trek at the first opportunity, and I’ve had a few chances so far snd not put it on. On the other hand when in the Uk you could only watch Disco “live” on Hulu (?) I literally arranged my whole week around it.
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember them saying that Tesco bring built would do that, so if they’re right, it’s too late?
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Oooh I like that. I bet it would look good in retro shade of red too
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Europe is rearming, despite it having an economy over 10x that of Russia, already a defence budget 3x that of Russia, along with nukes, aircraft carriers and some of the best trained troops in the world, so they could already more than easily take on Russia. So why are they really stepping up?
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
There’s a weird correlation between being a frog faced twat and wanting to leave the ECHR
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
It already has. After last weeks SNW S1E1 of Disco auto played. It’s was S1E4 and 3am before I thought I better go to bed. I’vw seen those episodes twice before but I’m in no rush to rewatch that episode of SNW (Though my daughter will endlessly watch the musical episode and sing along to it!)
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks for answering. While it is legal to own a gun, activities are very niche and very regulated over here….
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
But what do you use them for? Sorry, I’m just curious!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
The last time I flew the bus-tram-bus ride back from the airport (with a shed load of snowboarding gear) was more pleasant than the flying part.
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
From a UK perspective having any guns is very unusual (I know ONE person who has a pair of shotguns VERY carefully locked away) but that many is nuts… Who do they think they are, Detective John McClane? Can I ask why you even have three guns?

My 40 year old van despite being ICE, has a max range of about 300 miles, and being a tight arse I never had more than 1/4 of a tank in it, it only takes 99octane E5, and petrol stations with it are probably now rarer than charging points, I’m more than ok with that sort of range!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
It is, I used to drive London-Manchester regularly, I can do it non stop, just about, but further? The equivalent of Glasgow to Dover, is not just deranged, but dangerous!
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
I had a “disagreement” with a chap that said an electric car with a 250 mile range was “useless” because his diesel can do 500 miles. I asked him if he had a bladder with a 500 mile range, or can go without food for 8+ hours… (like most people would drive that far normally anyway)
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent

Lots of countries have trial by jury and require their citizens to occasionally perform jury service. These countries tend to before former British territories/colonies/commonwealth countries and have inherited it from the British legal system. It’s also sometimes used in Europe, Japan and Argentina

That’ll be quite difficult as salt (sodium) occurs naturally in lots of meat, dairy, eggs and some vegetables. Sugar is naturally in most fruits. Salt and sugar are also natural preservatives, which preserve/extend the shelf/cupboard life of food without the need of refrigeration etc

I don’t think it would be too hard a question to answer, my local hospital, when I went for a recent appointment, sent through an accessibility guide with narrated video tour of the accessible route right through to the department I was visiting.

The brick warehouses were the steel and glass skyscrapers of their day. Back then people whinged about those being built too. Too many “heritage” type people whinge about similar new developments in northern cities, when most of the time the plot has been a NCP car park for over half a f-ing century

Liverpool doesn’t need a blue plaque or outside validation, it’s an awesome/attractive city to visit and more potential now the shackles have been removed. While I admire the boldness and intent, its likely the lowest paid roles will be outsourced to a sub-contractor, probably making them less secure and eroding potential benefits like profit sharing and staff discounts enjoyed by direct employees. This has unintended consequences written all over it.

I did a city and guilds level 1 carpentry and joinery earlier this year at a local college evening classes, it was great. But there’s no level 2 unless you’re an apprentice/school leaver so…
Peter Wells (@pete-wells.bsky.social) reply parent
Even without disability the options can be quite limited, plenty of colleges offer courses to learn a trade but aimed at apprentices/school leavers. Try and find something that’s useful that you can fit around the job you have/need in the meantime is difficult, BUT are FREE if on low wage/benefits
