They love their performances for the media. Sadly, because the media had been complicit in the creating of the problem, they've failed to call them out on this bullshit before
Data Dot (@petermclarty.bsky.social) reply parent
Does this mean we can send the Nazis as well? Another horrible action by Labor that they wouldn't need to consider if they had acted on the media RC. Will they be deporting other criminals as well? This sort of action will never end well

There is something fundamentally wrong in Canberra abs the actions of our political parties. We saw it coming before the federal election when they tried to scupper the independent candidates and minor parties. Now they're doubling down Juice Media are right when they refer to them as shit lite
Data Dot (@petermclarty.bsky.social) reply parent
I get the implications, but the wrong place and time for the words. Who are exactly the good people? It's a lazy attempt to avoid dealing with the problem they are fuelling, and looking at the rest of the world won't end well for Australia The government needs to start looking harder at these mobs

It shows how easily people are manipulated. Any thought of having some extreme ideology would be rapidly beaten down. Up until the 90s no party with an extreme ideology would get more than a cursory glance from most of the country. Now we have all sorts #auspol
Data Dot (@petermclarty.bsky.social) reply parent
It's the same playbill as the USA; your problem is those immigrants. Next, they'll be pursuing the lines of criminal gangs from somewhere. This is the driver of fascism. Find an "other" scapegoat and then demonise those. Albo needs to take a stronger line and outlaw some of these mobs
Data Dot (@petermclarty.bsky.social) reply parent
Fascinating, I'm not sure we need to be spending 500 billion, but then if we can do it for some magical submarines, then maybe. Why also only from India? Seems like a lost opportunity for relationship building with our Southeast Asian neighbours. It's funny that we build enough homes already

From a couple of people I know who went, I think the entire crowd was for the most pretty ignorant of the thing. They have it in their heads that they did it for good reasons. I suspect a lot of people in Germany did so in the 30s as well

I don't think that is true in many countries outside the USA, but from what I have heard totally agree it is an issue in the USA. Right now, with this utterance from Microsoft it says there is no data sovereignty anywhere in the world if it's hosted on a service provided by a USA owned business
Data Dot (@petermclarty.bsky.social)
I look forward to the OAIC and governments response. All data in the cloud hosted by USA companies is fair game for an US agency that can argue they need to access your data. Trust is falling fast and this erodes it further #auspol www.theregister.com/2025/07/25/m...

The CCTV thing will be a big problem. The organisations operating then will need some sort of due diligence around their installers, and then the footage needs to be controlled. Likely it needs to get put under critical infrastructure, and there are a swathe of laws to deal with protecting the data
