It's great that it's popular! And Netflix paid enough for it, it was profitable before it streamed. But streaming in itself brought no profits. And the brief theatrical window brought in ... nearly as much as Sony had already profited ($20M), but nowhere near enough to fund another original.
And if the majority of the public were willing to pay those organizations for that news.

Yup. That's not what brought them to cinemas. It was for the experience of watching it on the big screen and singing along with a crowed. Netflix could absolutely continue/repeat that experience should they choose to.
